PLANNING STUDENT INTERN SUMMARY: This position is a temporary practicum in urban planning and landscape architecture. Interns will assist planning staff as needed by performing any or all of the following duties. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Assists the planning team in preparation of plans, details and graphics, projections, reports, and progress company policy/procedures, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards.
  • Assists the planning team in layout of projects, develops graphics for planning efforts and integrates engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.
  • Helps the planning team to research and prepare data for clients. 
  • Works with planning team to help ensure visibility of the company through attendance at public meetings, participation in civic organizations, and participation in public service and charitable activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Currently enrolled in a Landscape Architecture or related field, from an accredited school 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial report, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publications that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebraic functions and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software, Design software, Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid driver license and clean driving record.
