Position Description
The Laborer Foreman contributes to the overall success of CR Meyer and its heavy industrial customers through assigning tasks and providing leadership to a crew of Apprentice and Journeymen Laborers. Oversees a crew that is responsible for a wide variety of tasks on the construction site including but not limited to: material handling, assisting with concrete pours, building/dismantling structures, site cleaning/maintenance, etc. Responsible for ensuring an excellent degree of workmanship while simultaneously prioritizing the safety of oneself and others and aligning work to CR Meyer values.
- Supervises the activities of an assigned crew of Laborers, delegates work accordingly and actively performs the following tasks alongside their crew:
- Loading, unloading, moving and staging materials, tools and equipment used throughout construction sites.
- When properly trained, operates a forklift, aerial lift and other powered industrial equipment in a safe manner, following CR Meyer procedures.
- Assists in concrete pours as requested. Helps build framework and other structures in preparation for pours. Actively participates in pouring, finishing, curing, sawing, coring, etc.
- Assists in assembling and disassembling temporary and permanent structures on the site.
- Performs earth moving tasks such as hauling materials to the site, digging holes, excavating sites, leveling/backfilling/compacting sites, etc. Follows all CR Meyer procedures on trenching & excavating.
- When properly certified, erects scaffolding structures to be used during construction. Dismantles structures after use.
- When properly certified, performs rigging functions to move, install and/or lift materials and other equipment into place. Uses proper hand signals to assist others in this process.
- Maintains clean, neat and safe construction sites, breakroom facilities, storage areas, restroom facilities, offices, etc.
- Identifies and corrects safety hazards on the spot. Reports any concerns that need management attention to their supervisor to be addressed.
- Conducts pre-task planning sessions with crew to ensure everyone knows the job expectations, has the training/tools they need and understands safety requirements for the work they will be performing.
- Communicates, coaches and enforces CR Meyer safety standards with their crew including but not limited to: PPE, power tool safety, HazCom, lock-out/tag-out, confined space, fall protection, powered industrial vehicles, jobsite housekeeping standards, etc.
- Works with the Safety Coordinator to train and hold people accountable to CR Meyer safety standards. Has the authority to stop work in cases of imminent danger.
- Orders tools, supplies, materials, equipment needed for job completion using the company’s Yard Ordering system. Monitors and controls access to company property to reduce damage and/or loss.
- Orients new employees to the job site.
- Accurately keeps track of crew time and reports payroll hours in accordance with company training.
- Accurately tracks productivity measurements and reports as required.
- Participates in project team meetings, as required.
- Completes all paperwork in accordance with CR Meyer paperwork training.
- Works cooperatively with other trades to ensure projects stay on track. Ensures all communication with customers, subcontractors, coworkers and other parties is professional.
- Leads by personal example and is a strong advocate for the CR Meyer Mission-Vision-Values and Code of Conduct.
- Proactively maintains certifications and training requirements in relation to Laborer trade, with an emphasis on new developments in the field, technology and leadership.
- Maintains personal transcript of training and provides updates to the company as needed.
- Wears all assigned PPE and observes CR Meyer safety guidelines at all times.
- Due to project deadlines and demands, regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Completes all related paperwork in a timely manner.
- Represents the CR Meyer brand in a positive, professional manner at all times.
- All other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Previous experience as a Laborer Journeyman required and must hold a Journeyman Certificate/License.
- Ability to complete all CR Meyer training and perform job duties within safety guidelines including, but not limited to, First/Aid-CPR Certification, OSHA 30 and SafeStart and other job/trade-specific requirements.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with CR Meyer’s Drug & Alcohol Policy and Program.
- Must possess basic computer skills and/or the ability to learn CR Meyer software and systems.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insurable driving history and ability to operate a motor vehicle following all traffic laws and safe, courteous driving habits.
- Primary work hours are weekdays, however, overtime, weekend and on-call/emergency work will be required in relation to project completion deadlines.
- Ability to travel to various project sites within the United States required.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States, without employer sponsorship.
