CPS HR CONSULTING is Hiring a Library Assistant Manager Near Eaton, CO

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Assistant Manager performs mid-level professional duties including overseeing the daily operations of the library, supervising library staff, coordinating library volunteers; managing frontline customer service; coordinating library-wide programs and materials, and additional functions in specialty area of responsibility. Manages the library in the absence of the Library Director. Requires some evening and weekend hours. Reports to the Library Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for daily operations of the library by allocating resources, planning and prioritizing work, gathering and communicating information to employees, and making decisions to ensure the proper functioning of the library, including troubleshooting building and equipment related issues, enforcing library policies, and handling patron and staff concerns.
  • Oversees library staff in providing effective and efficient service to members of the community; maintains library desk schedule and employees’ monthly schedule.
  • Provides effective direction to staff in area of responsibility including managing and supervising staff; interviewing and selecting staff, monitoring and evaluating job performance; handling discipline and corrective action, and coordinating training and development.
  • Leads and supports library projects, including setting goals, establishing implementation team (s) and timelines for completion. Applies public input, best practices and industry trends.
  • Leads and supports library-wide programming including planning, marketing, facilitation and evaluation. 
  • Coordinates adult and teen library volunteers including screening applicants, onboarding, scheduling, directing work and documenting service hours.
  • Works closely with the Library Director to identify, coordinate and track staff training.
  • Manages public desk, meeting room, safety and circulation processes and procedures. Works closely with the Library Director to recommend and develop library procedures and policy improvements. 
  • Works a busy public service desk: guides library patrons in the effective use of library services and resources; answers reference, reader’s advisory and technology questions (approximately 10 hours/week). 
  • Responsible for collection development including purchasing, cataloguing, evaluating and weeding items.
  • Creates marketing materials, web content, program calendars, and displays to promote library programs and services.
  • Serves as a liaison on different cross community boards, districts and Town committees.
  • Serves as part of a collaborative, effective team: acts as a staff resource in area of specialty; creates statistical and narrative reports; participates in strategic planning and work plan creation and implementation.
  • Recommends budget, equipment and supply purchases. Provides annual budget input, prepares payment documents, and monitors expenditures.
  • Facilitates outreach to community partners including offsite events, programs and services.
  • Communicates out to stakeholders on behalf of the library. Gives presentations, advocates for library services, and builds relationships.
  • Regularly attends Library Board and Town Board meetings. Acts as the Library’s representative in the absence of the Library Director.
  • Regularly acts as Person in Charge of the Library.
  • Performs other duties as required and necessary to ensure the success of the organization.
SUPERVISION
  • This position is responsible for supervision of Eaton Public Library employee(s). Highest level supervised: non-exempt employee(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including scheduling, training development and evaluation of staff. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITY 
  • Ability to consistently promote, support, and represent the Library and the Town of Eaton in a professional manner.
  • Ability to lead by example, communicate strategic initiatives and delegate tasks. 
  • Knowledge of principles of supervising, training and evaluating staff.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of standard library operating procedures, methods and philosophies. 
  • Ability to work with and relate to patrons of all ages, identities and backgrounds.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability and experience in providing classes, programs and public presentations to groups of varying ages.
  • Ability and experience using computer software to prepare materials for marketing and promotion on a range of social media platforms.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with library and town coworkers, trustees, and volunteers. 
  • Ability to perform job duties during relaxed or stressed activity levels within the library. 
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, meet deadlines and to constructively problem solve. 
  • Welcomes diverse populations, including but not limited to cultural, racial, economic, and ethnic diversity. 
  • Spanish language proficiency a plus.

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible library or related field experience required. This is in addition to any years used to satisfy the education requirement.
  • One (1) year supervisory experience including directing and evaluating the work of paid staff is preferred.
  • One (1) year of leadership experience including project management, staff development and problem solving preferred.
  • Experience providing customer service to diverse individuals and groups is preferred.
  • Spanish language proficiency a plus.
  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.

Education
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required. 
  • A Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS), Library and Information Science (MLIS) or in related field such as Public Administration, Education, or Social Work is preferred.

Additional Requirements/License/Certifications
  • Must have reliable transportation. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. 
  • Passing a driving record (MVR), references and criminal history background check will be required prior to the start of employment.
  • Must be able to provide documentation that proves eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED 
Operating knowledge of library on-line computer catalog and staff terminals; Internet; personal computers (PC's); printers; hosting and attending on-line meetings using various platforms; technology such as tablets; electronic readers (eReaders); sound systems; gaming systems; laminators; photocopier; paper cutter; graphic design platforms; basic video recording tools; telephone; library carts; library materials (books, DVDs, Compact Discs (CD's), etc.); makerspace technology (3D printer, laser cutter, etc.), website and social media platforms. 


WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Incumbent will work in a dynamic public library environment with extensive public contact including explaining displayed information and directing customers to shelf locations and answering questions.
  • Flexible schedule requires some evening and weekend (Saturday) hours.
  • Work is generally performed in an indoor library environment.
  • Subject to interruptions, working with varying noise levels and sudden stressful demands.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to access and visually scan the library computer and staff screens.
  • Must be able to position or move materials on varying height shelves for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to kneel, sit on floor and get up from floor.
  • Must be able to manipulate visual materials during classes, programs and events.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, talk, reach with arms and hands, have good manual dexterity, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, handle or feel, hear alarms/telephones/normal speaking voice.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. 
  • Moderate physical activity required by moving and positioning objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.
