SUMMARY

The VP, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer for Covetrus is responsible for overseeing all aspects of corporate accounting, financial reporting, and compliance functions. Their role involves leading a team in managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial statements preparation, and developing and implementing robust internal controls. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Strategic Financial Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership in financial planning, analysis, and decision-making to drive the company's overall financial goals and objectives. This includes developing long-term financial strategies and overseeing their implementation to ensure sustainable growth and profitability.

Risk Management and Compliance: Lead efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks facing the organization, including compliance with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and financial reporting standards. Implement robust risk management frameworks to safeguard company assets and maintain regulatory compliance.

Corporate Governance: Serve as a key advisor to the Board of Directors and executive leadership on matters related to financial governance, internal controls, and financial risk management. Ensure adherence to corporate governance best practices and regulatory requirements, maintaining transparency and accountability in financial reporting.

Financial Systems and Technology: Oversee the evaluation, selection, and implementation of financial systems and technology solutions to streamline accounting processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and improve operational efficiency. Leverage emerging technologies and data analytics to drive continuous improvement in financial management and decision-making.

Investor Relation: Manage relationships with sponsors providing transparent and timely communication on financial performance, strategic initiatives, and corporate developments. Effectively communicate the company's financial position, performance, and growth prospects to support investor confidence.

Merger and Acquisition (M&A) Integration: Lead financial due diligence efforts for potential acquisitions, assessing financial risks and opportunities to support strategic decision-making. Oversee post-acquisition integration activities, including financial reporting consolidation, system integration, and alignment of accounting policies and procedures.

Talent Development and Succession Planning: Develop and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning. Identify and nurture top talent within the organization, implementing succession plans to ensure continuity in financial leadership and expertise.

Corporate Strategy and Business Planning: Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and execute corporate strategies and business plans aligned with the company's overall objectives. Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic initiatives, capital allocation decisions, and resource optimization efforts.

Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of timely financial reports, ensuring compliance with requirements and accounting standards.

Corporate Development and Growth Initiatives: Identify opportunities for organic growth, strategic partnerships, and business expansion through market analysis, industry trends, and competitive intelligence. Lead financial evaluations and due diligence for potential investments, partnerships, and strategic alliances to support the company's growth objectives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The VP, Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer oversees and directs the accounting and finance team, providing leadership, guidance, and strategic direction to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective management of the company's financial resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Advanced degree (e.g., Master's in Accounting, MBA) is preferred. Experience: A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles, with at least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership position such as Controller or Director of Accounting. Experience in a publicly traded company or large organization is highly desirable. Financial Management Skills: Strong understanding of financial management principles, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis. Regulatory Compliance: In-depth knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SEC reporting requirements, and other regulatory compliance standards applicable to publicly traded companies. Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with a track record of leading and developing high-performing teams. Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and provide financial insights and guidance to support the company's overall strategic objectives and growth initiatives. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to executive management, board members, and external stakeholders. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions. Integrity and Ethics: High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism, with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of financial governance and compliance. Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in accounting software, financial management systems, and Microsoft Excel. Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools is a plus. Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the veterinary industry, including understanding of industry-specific accounting practices and regulations.
