Job Description:

DLC Specialist (RLH) -

Dove Learning Center (RLH) Specialist -Will co-create an interactive learning environment that fosters the development of resiliency and promotes intrinsic motivation. Collaborate in developing relevant curriculum, lesson plans with blended learning modalities, training programs, and assessments. To provide on-site management of volunteers, in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure extraordinary service that enhances the programming, services and care offered to our residents and their babies.

Duties and responsibilities

Dove Learning Center

  • Conduct resilience survey with each resident.
  • Engage youth through self-paced blended learning environment: web based, small group, peer-led, and individualized.
  • Create learning opportunities that offer choice and challenge and are adaptive.
  • Contribute to a positive atmosphere where youth can experience a supportive relationship.
  • Collaborate with fellow team members in curriculum review to align with resiliency objectives in all areas: education, employment, financial literacy, social navigation, and physical, mental and spiritual wellness.
  • Provide instruction and oversight in the core content areas for all RLH youth.
  • Report data in management information system.
  • Manage educational aspects of program by facilitating connections to schools and educational opportunities.
  • Prepare youth for the workplace by facilitating groups in the areas of resume writing, employment readiness, preparedness and job retention.
  • Assess employability, job interests, and social skills.
  • Cultivate and establish employer relationships to develop employment opportunities for youth.
  • Provide ongoing educational and vocational counseling to youth.
  • Develop and identify both on and off-site career trainings and programs and inform youth of these opportunities.
  • Manage peer leadership program.
  • Lead once a month trainings for the RLH residents at peer leadership session in which topics such as communication, defining leadership, and teamwork are discussed.
  • Facilitate weekly peer advisory experiences that empower youth to take on leadership roles.
  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures and Child Protection standards.
  • Act as a role model who serves all with absolute respect and unconditional love.
  • Report and document critical incidents in a clear, thorough and timely manner.
  • Provide and attend staff and volunteer trainings.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Manage onsite aspects of volunteer programming, to include specific program trainings, including but not limited to: Covie’s store, Baby Dove Program, Mommy and Me, parenting sessions, all Learning Zone programs, student volunteers, community dinners, baby showers, team of Health Care Professionals, yoga and other wellness related activities.
  • Communicate with Volunteer Coordinator of the DLC who will conduct volunteer orientations to onboard all new volunteers. This includes applications, background checks, confidentiality, discussions of boundaries and helping relationships, trauma-informed care training and agency history.
  • Serve as liaison between volunteers and program team to ensure seamless communication and improved quality to service clients.
  • Attend volunteer activities as needed to support and maintain volunteer programming.
  • Maintain records on volunteer participation and provide outcome reports.
  • Maintain all in-kind donations: requests, tracking, inventory, and acknowledging as they relate to the donations closet, Covie’s Store, new resident Welcome set up.
  • Assist development team in the identification and preparation of youth speakers for fundraising purposes.
  • Communicate the work of donor volunteers for the purpose of appropriate recognition and donor cultivation.
  • Attend quarterly Mother-Child Program Board meetings and provide volunteer and program updates.
  • Work on special projects as needed and assigned by department leadership.
  • Assists as needed with fundraising affairs and special events which may be conducted outside the employee’s normal business work schedule.
  • All other duties as assigned

Applicant must be available to work the following schedule: Monday thru Friday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM and Occasional Saturdays for special events.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in from an accredited college or university, Master’s degree in social work preferred.
  • Experience managing volunteer groups and external agencies.
  • Committed to working with young people who have experienced great hardship, including homelessness.
  • Flexible, dynamic, creative problem solver.
  • Strong ability to partner with staff and volunteers throughout the Covenant House organization.
  • Valid NJ driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
