Under the supervision of the Mobile Operations and the day-to-day work direction of the mobile or center charge nurse, the Driver MobileAssistant operates a self-contained mobile blood collection unit, setting up at remote blood collection (mobile) sites and returning to the BloodCenter.

What you will do

At mobile locations, act as Donor Room Assistant under the directionof the on-site supervisor/charge nurse, including, but not limited to:

• Keep confidential records about donor medical history cardand unit numbering.

• Label blood bags.

• Heat seal donor unit tubing into segments.

• Escort donors and assist with donors who have reactions.

• Operate self-contained mobile blood collection unit, setup at remote blood collection (mobile) sites, and return to Blood Center (ClassB driver’s license required).

• Responsible for keeping mobile units clean, operational,gassed, and containing adequate supplies and equipment. Vehicles and equipmentmust be maintained to be ready for emergency dispatch. Inventory and ordersupplies are included on mobile units.

• Load, transport, assemble, and dismantle mobile equipment,medical supply boxes, and computers for mobiles at businesses, othercommunities, or civic locations within surrounding communities. Rearrangeexisting furniture at mobile sites when necessary.

• Ensure all equipment on mobile units (donor beds,equipment boxes) is always operational. Report malfunctioning equipment to the appropriatedepartment. Coordinate repairs of mobile vehicles when necessary. Operatecars within the limits of the law at all times (fines resulting frominfractions will be at your own expense.)

• Responsible for deliveries to and from the blood center tofacilitate the efficient operation of the blood center and mobile unit.

Transport blood to the component laboratory; ensure bloodtransport boxes/coolers are correctly used and temperature quality controlmaintained. Prepare and distribute supplies and equipment for mobileunits/locations and fixed site locations according to the requirements of theCollections department.

• Completes a variety of other support activities related toactivities in blood collection areas as directed by supervisory/charge nursestaff.

• Train new drivers in all aspects of the job, includingdriving and DRA responsibilities. Recognize personal responsibility to complywith safe and healthful work practices. Comply with government regulations andBlood Center policies regarding health and safety. Observe and support goodhealth and safety practices. Respect and maintain the confidentiality ofdonors, patients, and staff records and use complete discretion when discussingthese matters. Validate trip sheets to ensure directions to mobile sites areclear and accurate.

• Comply with governmental regulations and Stanford HealthCare and Blood Center policies regarding health and safety. Observe and supportgood health and safety practices. 

• Strictly observe privacy and security-relatedpolicies, procedures, and practices to preserve the integrity andconfidentiality of medical and other sensitive information about donors,patients, research subjects, and employees. Act as a responsible informationsteward and treat information as sensitive and confidential by federal andstate laws and with professional ethics, accreditation standards, and legalrequirements. Do not disclose protected health information inappropriately. 

• They may be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne splash or spill may exist.

• 1 year to 2 years Class B driving experience with validlicense and verifiable good driving record Required

• 1 years to 2 years Experience driving a 50-foot vehiclePreferred Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Must communicateeffectively in English, both orally and in writing.

• Demonstrated tact and courtesy required.

• Must be able to lift and carry 50-75 pounds.
