Position Details

Preschool Teacher

ASSIGNMENT : St. Charles Elementary School

REPORTS TO : Child Care Director and Elementary Principal

COMPENSATION : Hourly rate to be determined

DESCRIPTION : This position serves as the lead of a teaching team in a classroom of preschool children. The person in this position plans and implements a healthy, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool children that promotes developmental gains toward attaining kindergarten readiness skills as defined in the Great Start Readiness Program.

This position is one part of a large system of services provided to children and families, this position also serves as a social service referral person and shares responsibility for parent involvement in the program.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Experience or knowledge of the basics of working with children 3 and 4 years old.
  • Knowledge of basic food preparation, serving, and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to relate sensitively with children and to work well with staff, parents, and families.
  • Must maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality about students and their families and other legal requirements, i.e., FERPA, HIPPA.
  • Attend parent / teacher conferences annually for every child and family.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Follow and implement the policies and procedures of the Department of Human Services Licensing Guidelines.
  • Work with additional building staff (i.e., principal, secretary, custodian, food services) to ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Assure that childrens records remain confidential.
  • Ensure and carry out daily / weekly housekeeping chores for the classroom licensing requirements.
  • Must satisfactorily pass :
  • Criminal History background check.
  • Personal and business reference background check.
  • Acceptable tuberculosis and drug screening results are required post-job offer and prior to employment.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • Required to stand, sit on the floor, bend, squat, kneel, and engage in physical play in various learning environments.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Noise levels in the work environment may be moderate to loud.
  • Some evenings and weekend work may occasionally be required for events such as conferences, open houses, and fundraisers.

Individuals currently employed by the district who are applying for this position must submit a letter of interest stating the position title.

Submission of a current resume and an updated district application form is not required but may help the district identify qualifications and experience.

Other individuals whose behavior is found to be in violation of the policy will be subject to appropriate sanctions as determined and imposed by the superintendent or board.
