County of Solano is Hiring a Deputy County Counsel I-IV DOQ Near Fairfield, CA

The County Counsel's Office serves as the civil legal advisor for the Board of Supervisors, County officials and departments, County boards and commissions, the Solano County Office of Education, the Solano County Grand Jury, schools, special districts and other public entities in the County. The County Counsel provides advice on a wide variety of legal matters ranging from the Americans with Disabilities Act to Zoning. The County Counsel's duties also include litigating civil actions on behalf of its public clients, and representing the County in juvenile dependency and conservatorship proceedings. The County Counsel's Office does not provide advice directly to members of the public.

Essential Duties

The Position
This recruitment is being conducted to fill a Deputy County Counsel in the Solano County Counsel's Office, with a particular interest in attorneys with juvenile dependency experience. The position will be filled at the I, II, III or IV level, depending on experience. The Deputy County Counsel position represents a great opportunity to join a collegial team of attorneys and staff. In this rewarding role, you will primarily but not solely provide legal counsel to and advise the Health and Social Services Department's Child Welfare Services (CWS) Division on matters involving allegations of child abuse and neglect.
The successful candidate will regularly:

  • Draft legal documents such as memoranda, briefs, writs, and appeals
  • Appear in court on law and motion, hearing, and contested hearing calendars
  • Study and apply new case law, statutory law, and legislative changes
  • Attend trainings, and in turn, may train other attorneys and CWS personnel in the juvenile dependency area of law
  • In addition, the successful candidate may assist with County Counsel's other areas of responsibility.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE:
Deputy County Counsel I ($7,967.67 to $9,684.75 month): No experience required; however, applicants must demonstrate possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities.
Deputy County Counsel II ($10,782.46 to $13,106.15/month): A minimum of six months of experience as a Deputy County Counsel I or its equivalent. One year of experience in the general practice of law may be substituted for the 6months of County Counsel experience.
Deputy County Counsel III ($12,399.51 to $15,071.68/month): A minimum of one year of experience as a Deputy County Counsel II or its equivalent. Four years of experience in the general practice of law may be substituted for two years of County Counsel experience.
Deputy County Counsel IV ($14,264.30 to $17,338.35/month): A minimum of one year of experience as a Deputy County Counsel III or its equivalent which demonstrates possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities. Five years of experience in the general practice of law may be substituted for the three years of County Counsel experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Active membership in the California State Bar Association is required.*
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license may be required.

Selection Process
05/30/2024 – 5:00pm Deadline to submit application and required documents.
