Description

The Temporary Custodian is responsible for maintaining county buildings and property. This includes but is not limited to gathering trash, sorting recyclables, cleaning toilets, walls, counters, glass and mirrors, floors (mopping and vacuuming), minor maintenance and repairs, and snow removal. Responsible for keeping cleaning supplies in inventory and seeing that the building is secure. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responsible for gathering trash and sorting out recyclables.
• Cleans bathrooms, break rooms, clinic rooms, meeting rooms, hallways, and offices.
• Responsible for vacuuming, dusting, mopping, extracting carpets, waxing, auto scrubbing hard floors, cleaning windows and glass doors, counters, and cabinets.
• Responsible for minor maintenance of the building from changing light bulbs and painting to general maintenance checks on doors and locks.
• Responsible for restocking all supplies including cleaning supply inventory;
• Prepares various meeting rooms for meetings and other events. Secures building after evening meetings. Will be required to periodically do building checks on weekends.
• Assists in furniture moving for office relocations.
• Shovels snow as necessary. This may involve the use of snow removal equipment including skid loaders, snow blowers, lawn tractors, push blade trucks, and shovels. May be periodically called in on weekends to assist with snow removal.
• Access to Not Public Data – The incumbent may encounter not public data in the course of these duties. Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to fulfill the employment responsibility. While data are being accessed, incumbents should take reasonable measures to ensure the not public data are not accessed by individuals without a work reason. Once the work reason to access the data is reasonably finished, the incumbent must properly store the not public data according to the provisions of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 13).

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs other work-related duties as required.
• If a new work assignment requires access to not public data, the incumbent is permitted to access not public data for work assignment purposes only. Any access to not public data must be strictly limited to the data necessary to complete the work assignment and after the assignment is completed, the employee’s work assignment no longer requires access.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Graduation from high school. One year of related on-the-job training is preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

At least one year of recent related maintenance experience, which includes the following skills and abilities:

• Strong working knowledge of maintenance operations, related equipment, and related quality requirements. 
• Strong working knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, and practices used in building maintenance operations.
• Ability to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate building maintenance activities. 
• Ability to operate general office equipment including maintenance-related applications on a computer.
• The ability to complete tasks with little or no supervision. The ability to work independently while completing all assigned tasks.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. The ability to work with all types of people and personalities.
• The ability to work in a professional and confidential office environment.
• Experience using skid loaders, lawn tractors, snow blowers, and Pick-ups with a snow blade is preferred
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
