Role Overview
Performs intermediate administrative work administering and overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Communications Center training program, supervising trainers and trainees; serving as agency EMD/EFD Manager and VCIN Agency Coordinator; serving as agency liaison with criminal justice academy; does related work as required. This person will serve as the CALEA manager for the Center, organizing files and ensuring the Center meets CALEA standards. Work is performed under the general direction of the Emergency Communications Center Director. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate personnel in the absence of the Director.
Role Description
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of applicable emergency telecommunications systems, radio communication technology, computer-aided dispatch systems and equipment related to emergency management programs.
Thorough knowledge of the laws, ordinances, and other regulations pertaining to the provision of public safety answering point services, public safety dispatching and related tasks.
Education and Experience
Possess an Associate’s degree, or equivalent experience, and five (5) years of experience in public safety dispatching, minimum of 3 years of experience as a Certified Communications Training Officer, minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
APCO Registered Public Safety Leader certification preferred.
Special Requirements
Ability to satisfactorily complete the in-house public safety communication officer training program; ability to satisfactorily complete the Department of Criminal Justice Basic Dispatcher Academy; ability to obtain and maintain Public Safety Telecommunicator I, Fire Service Communications, Communications Training Officer, DCJS General Instructor, Active Shooter, Crisis Intervention Training, Virginia Criminal Information Network/National Crime Information Center, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, Incident Command System 100,200, 300, National Incident Management System 700, Radiological Training at North Anna Power Plant, Emergency Medical Dispatch and Emergency Fire Dispatch Certifications; ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to successfully complete probationary period.
