County of Madera is Hiring a Licensed Utility Worker II Near Madera, CA

 examination will remain open until the needs of the department are met and is subject to closure without prior notice. Applications will be accepted continuously until otherwise noted and the list will be used to fill current vacancies in this classification.

This position is currently undergoing review as part of a class study and therefore both the title and the pay range assigned may be subject to change upon completion of the study.

Under general supervision, to operate and maintain water and wastewater systems throughout the County; to operate and service equipment; to collect samples and perform laboratory testing procedures; and to do related work as required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level staff.
Performs a variety of assignments in the monitoring and operation of water and wastewater systems and processing facilities; tests and repairs equipment; logs readings from meters, gauges, and recording charts; makes necessary operating adjustments to water and wastewater systems; collects samples and performs laboratory testing procedures; interprets tests; recommends adjustments and adjusts flows and chemical levels as necessary; performs skilled maintenance on water and wastewater facilities including lift stations, pumps, compressors, motors, switching equipment, alarm systems, and related equipment; maintains and repairs control systems for generators, pumps, valves, and mechanical equipment; makes regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance and repair needs; gathers information and prepares required reports; operates equipment; uses a variety of tools and testing equipment; operates backhoes and other equipment; performs skilled plumbing and carpentry work related to the maintenance and repair of water and wastewater systems and other County facilities; works in and around high voltage equipment and panels; handles hazardous materials; responds to and implements emergency procedures.

Education & Training :
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. ?A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two (2) years of previous work experience equivalent to that of a Licensed Utility Worker I with Madera County.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized course work in water and wastewater system operation and maintenance.
License or Certificate:
  • Possession of a Grade I or II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate, and possession of a Grade I or II Water Treatment Operator Certificate and a Grade I or II Water Distribution Operator Certificate. ? (At least one, either the wastewater certification or the water treatment and distribution certifications, must be at the Grade II level.)
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain by date of appointment, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, and lift 75 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, infectious materials, hazardous gas, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for shift work, on-call, and stand-by.The application review process will include screening to ensure applications are complete and meet all minimum qualifications. Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications, applicants may be scheduled for the assessment listed below. Passing score is 70% out of 100% on each assessment section.

Placement on Eligible List: 
The Civil Service Commission may limit the number of qualified applicants eligible to participate in the examination process. If two or more candidates have the same total final score on an examination, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in that portion of the examination which has the greatest weight. The names of two or more eligibles having final ratings which are identical shall be grouped on the eligible list as tie names with equal rank for certification and appointment purposes.
 
 Candidates who are successful in all phases of the examination process will be placed on an eligible list, in rank order based on a calculation of their total score from the examination process. The eligible list established by this recruitment will be active for a minimum of six (6) months or one (1) year, unless otherwise determined by the Director pursuant to section 6-4 (b) and may be extended for up to an additional year by the Commission.
 PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 As a condition of employment with the County of Madera, a candidate must submit to a Tuberculosis (TB) screening, and related follow up testing as necessary. Designated classifications* are also subject to a medical examination, which includes a review of medical history. TB screenings and medical exams are administered by the Madera County Public Health Department and/or health care professional designated by the County.
