County of Madera is Hiring a Licensed Mental Health Clinician - (Open Until Filled) Near Madera, CA

County of Madera is establishing a list of qualified applicants for this position. Applications will be accepted continuously until otherwise noted and the list will be used to fill current vacancies in this classification.

This position is currently undergoing review as part of a class study and therefore both the title and the pay range assigned may be subject to change upon completion of the study.

Under general supervision, provides professional mental health services; provides clinical and casework services, and counseling and treatment for mentally and emotionally disturbed clients and their families; and performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercises no supervision.
Performs journey level professional casework and clinical services with mentally and emotionally disturbed clients; works as a team member with other professionals; participates in evaluative and diagnostic staff conferences; conducts individualfamily and group therapy; interviews clients and relatives; makes referrals to appropriate professionals, outside agencies, or specialized services; participates in collaborative treatment with representatives of other agencies; prepares verbal, written, and statistical reports; attends conferences, workshops, and training to maintain current awareness of mental health methodologies and issues; operates a personal computer and other office equipment; communicates effectively with others in person and over the telephone; analyze data, interpret directions, procedures and regulations, and develop appropriate responses; perform job duties under stressful conditions; respond appropriately to situations; maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or County regulations; makes presentations; and may be assigned some lead and special work coordination responsibilities.

Knowledge of:
  • Principles, procedures, techniques, trends of clinical and casework services, counseling, and treatment.
  • Social aspects and characteristics of mental and emotional disturbances.
  • Principles of mental health education.
  • Theories and causes of substance abuse.
  • A wide variety of therapeutic and treatment approaches for persons with mental and emotional problems.
  • Scope, availability, and activities of community resources, including other mental health and social service agencies.
  • Current trends in mental hygiene, mental health, public health, and social services, including State and Federal programs in these areas.
 Skill to:
  •  Operate a motor vehicle safely.
Ability to:
  • Develop and maintain the confidence and cooperation of mentally and emotionally disturbed clients and families.
  • Perform skilled counseling.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of client information.
  • Interact with clients in a therapeutic way.
  • Organize, data, develop information, and prepare clear, concise, comprehensive records and reports.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers and those contacted during the course of work.
  • Work alternative hours and shifts pursuant to operational needs as determined by Management.
Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Training:
Graduation from an accredited graduate school with a Master's Degree in counseling, social work, psychology, marriage and family counseling or a closely related field.
License or Certification:
Current license as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Professional Clinical Counselor*issued by the California State Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
*Individuals who are qualifying with current licensure as a Professional Clinical Counselor must show at the time of application, proof of completed, additional coursework as outlined in the Business and Professions Code Section 4999.20 (3)(A)(B) and (C), to perform assessments and treatment of couples or families.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 25 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, chemicals, and infectious disease; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for shift work, on-call and standby.

The eligible list established by this recruitment will be active for a minimum of six (6) months or one (1) year, unless otherwise determined by the Director pursuant to section 6-4 (b) and may be extended for up to an additional year by the Commission. Designated classifications* are also subject to a medical examination, which includes a review of medical history.
