The Kenosha County Parks Division is accepting applications for Lifeguards to work at Silver Lake Park’s public beach for the 2024 season,Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends. Under the direct supervision of the Beach Manager, Lifeguards are responsible for supervising the safety and activities of beach patrons. If you are hardworking, can maintain a safe environment, enforce beach rules, and consistently act in a manner that earns and merits the respect and confidence of patrons - this could be the job for you! Kenosha County is committed to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and is anEqual Opportunity Employer. 2024 Hiring Range: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour Hiring BonusA Kenosha County seasonal Park candidate who is successfully hired and employed for at least 30 days shall be awarded a $200.00 bonus to their paycheck. Lifeguard certification is required and will be paid for you prior to the start of the season. Please note: Securing the necessary certifications/renewals is not a guarantee of employment with Kenosha County. All candidates must also pass the selection criteria established for the Lifeguard position. WORK SCHEDULESilver Lake beach is open from Memorial Day through Labor DayFull-time schedule up to 40 hours per week, with rotating days off, weekendsHours are typically 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. but flexibility may be allowedRequired to work evenings, weekends, and holidaysWork schedules are dependent on weather and water quality conditions DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise beaches and surrounding swimming areas to maintain order and protect swimmers from accidents or drowningEnforce rules and regulationsOperate safety equipment, administer first aid, rescue and resuscitate drowning persons, as requiredAssist in cleaning and beach maintenance JOB REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCEMust be at least 15 years old at time of applicationMust be able to swim 500 yards continuous swim using front crawl and/or breaststrokeMust be able to swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound brick from a maximum depth of 12 feet, then swim 20 yards with both hands on the brickMust be able to tread water for 2 minutes using only the legsMust be able to swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve 3 dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water, resurface, and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the skills sequence LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSCurrent American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training or Ellis & Associates (Ellis) Lifeguard Training ARC or Ellis Waterfront LifeguardingARC or Ellis Lifeguard Training InstructorCPR for the Professional Rescuer certification SUCCESS FACTORSAbility to accept, understand, and follow written and/or verbal instructionAbility to observe safety precautionsAbility to enforce rules and regulations in an effective and appropriate mannerAbility to perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks outdoors related to the maintenance of beach, grounds, and facilitiesAbility to maintain positive interactions with the public, employees, and others, using effective communication skillsAbility to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
