Dutchess County - Office for The Aging
Salary: $21.12/hr.
This is a permanent hourly position in the Dutchess County Office for the Aging. This is manual
work of higher difficulty requiring skills in the operation of more complex and larger automotive
vehicles used to transport passengers. The operator is responsible for the safety and conduct of
the passengers. This class differs from other bus driver positions in that it requires a higher-class
driver’s license. The work is performed under general supervision with considerable leeway
allowed to the operator for independent judgement in carrying out the details of the work.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Operates a bus on regular schedule and/or on special occasions, checks the operating condition
of the bus before starting on a trip. Reports any mechanical defect to immediate superior, checks
and fills vehicle with fuel. Instructs adult passengers about safety practices when entering and/or
leaving bus. Maintains orderly conduct of adult passengers while on bus. Completes accident and
vehicle maintenance reports. May clean interior and exterior of assigned vehicle, may be
required to administer first aid to adult passengers injured on bus. May be required to assist in
cleaning buildings such as dust furniture, wash windows, clean bathrooms, gather and dispose of
refuse, wash floors, and clean and polish furniture. Perform simple clerical tasks such as filing,
sorting and/or printing of various materials, assist with packaging and delivering of meals,
newsletters and/or menus to clients. Accept donations and provide receipts per NYS guidelines
for voluntary contributions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess a valid New York State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B
with a P (passenger) endorsement at time of application and to maintain position.
SPECIAL NOTE: Applicants for positions that require driving a commercial motor vehicle
(CMV) at any time will be required to undergo controlled substances and at our discretion,
alcohol testing prior to employment and will be subject to further testing throughout their period
of employment.
FINGERPRINTING: A fingerprint supported background investigation is required before an
appointment is made to some positions. Pursuant to New York State Executive Law, the Division
of Criminal Justice Services requires that a fee accompany each such request for a search. It is
due once a job offer is made and accepted by the applicant.
