County of Clarion is Hiring a Maintenance Helper Near Shippenville, PA

POSITION: Maintenance Helper
Full-Time, 80 hours per pay

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance, Shippenville, PA

PAY RANGE: $14.00/hour (non-exempt)

BENEFITS: Up to family coverage for health, dental, and vision insurance effective first of the month after date of hire (employee pays 12.5% of premium, county pays 87.5%). $1,500 yearly stipend if you do not need the county insurance. Life insurance coverage at no cost to employees. 5 Vacation days first year, 10 vacation days starting second year, 3 personal days per year, 10 sick days per year, 13 paid holidays off. Enrollment in Clarion County’s Pension plan (vested after 5 years, eligible to retire at 55 with 20 years of service).

GENERAL DEFINITION

Position performs unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor in the care and maintenance of the County buildings and grounds. Work generally is performed under immediate supervision, but routine tasks may be performed under only general supervision. To perform general maintenance and repairs duties within the buildings and grounds of County owned and leased property.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs routine cleaning of offices, restrooms, hallways, stairways, elevator and other areas within county building.
  • Trimming duties, trash removal and repair and maintenance of existing landscaped areas
  • Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork and windows.
  • Strips, waxes and polishes tile floors.
  • Empties wastebaskets and recycling bins. Takes trash and recyclables to disposal and collection areas. Shreds paper to be recycled.
  • Replenishes bathroom supplies.
  • Plants, trims, waters and fertilizes shrubs and flowers, and rakes leaves.
  • Picks up and disposes of litter and debris.
  • Performs minor and routine repairs, such as painting and unclogging plumbing.
  • Stocks department supplies.
  • Checks boiler, gauges and other equipment for proper operation and makes minor adjustments if necessary.
  • Checks buildings on a routine basis to ensure they are in good repair and well-maintained o provide a safe working environment for employees as well as the general public.
  • Transports materials to/from proper departments; clears loading dock area.
  • Changes light bulbs as needed.
  • Installs equipment as needed.
  • Removes snow manually from walkways and entrance ways or removes snow from other areas and/or cuts grass as required.
  • Makes repairs to damaged equipment.
  • Operates power equipment and hand tools to perform essential job duties.
  • Paints required fixtures, building and other objects as directed.

OTHER DUTIES OF THE JOB

1. Assists Supervisor with work assignments or special projects as necessary.

2. Assists with setting up and cleaning for special events.

3. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

4. Must have a valid Driver's License.

The position is supervised by the County Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Works with average indoor and outdoor exposure to noise, stress and disruptions.

2. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt; above normal when cleaning air ducts.

3. Subject to working different shifts as required.

4. Subject to periodically working in adverse conditions or various outdoor elements depending on nature of job assignment.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS

1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.

2. Must be able to stand and walk intermittently for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping and driving as necessary to carry out duties of job.

3. Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands, feet/legs, torso as necessary to carry out job duties.

4. Medium work with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing from 25 to 50 pounds; occasionally lifts 100-pound with assistance and/or lifting equipment.

5. Must demonstrate emotional stability.

6. Must be able to move frequently throughout the workday.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.

2. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with clients, co-workers and others.

3. Must possess a willingness to travel as needed.

4. Must possess knowledge of the methods, tools and practices used in general maintenance and construction.

5. Must possess knowledge and ability to detect defects in equipment and make proper adjustments.

6. Must possess knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions and the ability to exercise skill in the care and use of various tools and equipment.

7. Must possess ability to utilize County vehicles and various equipment such as a snow blower, tractor, hand tools, drill press, etc.

8. Must possess ability to follow oral and written instructions.

9. Must possess ability to accurately and safely complete general repairs and maintenance on heating, air conditioning and plumbing needs.

10. Must possess ability to operate County vehicles used for maintenance and to plow snow in winter and cut grass in spring and summer.

11. Must have general knowledge of local codes and regulations and ability to troubleshoot problem areas.

12. Must possess general knowledge regarding the operation of personal computers.
