County of Bernalillo is Hiring a Lifeguard - Summer Program Near Summer Program, NM

POSITION SUMMARY

Lifeguard will assure the safety of all individuals using the County pool facilities. Monitor activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and maintain order. Respond to any dangerous situation in pool area, rescue swimmers, implement emergency plans and administer first aid. Assist in the regular monitoring of pool water chemicals and make required chemical adjustments to maintain safe balance of water. Assist in instruction, monitoring, and implementation of county sponsored swim programs. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Monitor activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and maintain order.
  2. Respond to any dangerous situation in pool area, rescue swimmers, implement emergency plans and administer first aid.
  3. Assist in the regular monitoring of pool water chemicals and make required chemical adjustments to maintain safe balance in water.
  4. Assist in the instruction, monitoring, and implementation of county sponsored swim programs.
  5. Inspect facilities for cleanliness, clean and refill pool.
  6. Conduct and/or officiate at swimming meets.
  7. Develop and conduct aquatics programs including swimming lessons, swim meets and water safety instruction. Responsible for maintaining documentation.
  8. Incumbent(s) in this classification may handle sensitive and/or confidential records, plans, documents or decisions that require maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. ?

  1. Requires current enrollment in High School, High School Diploma, or GED, must be 15 years or older, be Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, and successfully complete the New Mexico lifeguard and safety training. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  3. Any required certification must remain current during employment with the Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation Department and Human Resources Department.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Employee is outdoors 75% of time when assigned to outdoor pool; employee is outdoors 25% of time when assigned to inside pool.
  2. Indoor duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment; however, worker is exposed to wet cement and mat surfaces while working. Outdoor surfaces include concrete, asphalt, ramps, stairs, wood decks, and ladder chairs.
  3. Work hazards or potential work hazards include the exposure to dangerous emergency situations involving rescue, hazardous chemicals, and possible exposure to bodily fluids from persons with life-threatening diseases.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

  1. Employee handles writing utensils, various paperwork, files and reports in the documentation of statistical reports, daily pool chemistry logs, daily bank deposits, and ordinary office record keeping.
  2. Employee handles hazardous materials (possible cancer causing particles), to include chlorine gas, chlorine bleach, hydrochloric acid, sodium bisulfate, sodium thiosulfate, carbon dioxide gas, sodium bicarbonate, calcium chloride, muriatic acid, calcium hypochlorite, and other such pool chemicals.
  3. Employee utilizes a filter mask when handling some hazardous chemicals.
