Job summary

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is one ofthe largest integrated care providers in England, serving a population ofaround 600,000 people.

With a multidisciplinary team of 20 staff, the TrustwideAudiology Department serves a population of around 550,000 in County Durham andDarlington.

We provide a comprehensive diagnostic assessment andrehabilitative service for adults and paediatrics, including ENT support,Hearing Therapy, Tinnitus management, vestibular assessment and rehabilitation,BAHA, NHSP diagnostic assessment, paediatric rehabilitation, adult directreferral clinics, community paediatric assessment clinics etc.

We are an AQP site (Any Qualified Provider)for the Direct Access of Hearing aids service.

An opportunity has arisen for a suitablyqualified individual to join our Audiology service providing a range ofservices across County Durham and Darlington.

The post has a nominal base atthe University Hospital of North Durhambut the post holder will be expected to cover our various community andhospital sites.

Main duties of the job

Youwill be fully competent in all aspects of routine audiology assessment andrehabilitation and will be confident working with patients with complex needs.

You must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and haveexperience in training and supervision of junior team members and otherstaff.

Experience in paediatrics orcomplex adult audiology is desirable but not essential.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will help develop the Audiology service at County Durhamand Darlington NHs Foundation Trust and work at our outreach clinics for boththe adult and paediatric population.

You will undertake a range of diagnostictesting and testing of middle ear function. You will refer suitable patientsfor BAHA and cochlear implants as appropriate.

You will support patients in understanding theirhearing loss, set realistic expectations and develop individual managementplans.

Selecting and fitting appropriate hearing aids and reassessing hearingwill form your main duties as well as supporting ENT clinics.

In additon youwill be responsible for more complex patients and subject to your experience bepart of the paediatric diagnostic and rehab team.

  • BSc in Audiology (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Supervisory / Management Qualification
  • D32 / 33 Assessors award or equivalent mentorship award
  • HCC qualifications

Relevant experience as a qualified audiologist (B5)
