Manager-in-Training (MIT)

Job Description: Manager-in-Training- Entry level
Job Type: Full time, Year-Round, must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays. You may be asked to commute to other stores no greater than 50 Miles.
Job Summary: Provide leadership and foster a team atmosphere in a retail-oriented environment. The MIT will work extensively with the store manager to develop and build on communication and delegation skills, sales, merchandising, product knowledge and Point of Sale operations. The MIT will also learn the financial and daily cash flow procedures.
CountryMax Overview: Beginning in 1984 as a small farm supply and feed store owned by the Payne family, CountryMax has grown into one of western New York State’s biggest success stories. CountryMax now operates 16 locations spanning from Buffalo to just north of Binghamton, and employs over 300 team members, a number that continues to grow each year. Over time the product offering as well as store size has increased dramatically- in addition to farm and feed supplies, CountryMax is now a one-stop shop for all lawn and garden products, pet supplies, small pets, clothing, and backyard wild bird feeding. CountryMax customers have come to rely on a level of service, pricing, and small-town feel in a way that larger stores cannot replicate- yet they also enjoy the benefits of CountryMax’s extensive purchasing power and flexibility that typically tips the scales between the “big-boxes” and independents.
Position Outline: The manager-in-training position is a key management position in the store. The MIT will receive hands on education in the store with the goal to become a store manager. The MIT will progress from MIT to assistant manager and then to store manager. The timeline will be determined by the performance and merit of the manager-in-training. The MIT needs to be a self-starter and motivator to provide a positive example to the other store team members. Along with the store manager, the MIT will be tasked with operating the day-to-day store tasks in an effective and efficient manner. The MIT will also be expected to continue to educate and build upon their own skill set under the supervision of the store manager. The essential job functions include (but are not limited to) are:
Position Requirements:
The manager-in-training role will be based primarily out of a home store. The MIT may also receive some education and training at the CountryMax Support Center. The MIT may also work at several store locations and with several other store managers and assistant managers. The MIT will need to have a willingness to travel and the ability to travel to several possibly assigned store locations. The MIT will need to be open to constantly being educated and learning new elements of being an effective store manager. The MIT will need to be punctual and be able to work a variety of hours and shifts. A high energy, self-starter is a must for this position. Some other positional requirements are listed below:
