Council On Foreign Relations is Hiring an Internship, Africa Policy, Summer 2024 Near New York, NY

Overview

CFR’s Blavatnik and Robina Franklin Williams internships give selected interns the opportunity to receive training in the area of foreign policy; as well as skills training in areas such as writing, research, and program planning.

The intern will help support the fellow's work by contributing to weekly social media research, in addition to other ad-hoc research tasks for certain case studies. The intern will build their knowledge on African history, politics, and economics.

CFR internships are paid, require a 14 - 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.

CFR’s summer internship program gives interns the opportunity to choose whether to work in our office in a hybrid capacity (half in the office, and half remote), or on an offsite fully remote basis. 

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct weekly social media research on a set of African countries for fellows' book project
  • Writing memos and summaries of research related to book topic
  • Tracking current events on the continent throughout the term
  • Organizing citations

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student, majoring in political science, African studies, international relations, history, development or a related field 
  • All applicants should have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college coursework (not including AP classes in high school) by the time they begin an internship
  • Prior internship experience, especially in nonprofit or think tank work, a plus
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Proficiency in French and/or Swahili a preferred but not required

Pay Rate

$17.00 per hour
