Medicaid Specialist
Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio (COA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing quality of life for older adults, people with disabilities, their families and caregivers. We promote choice, independence, dignity and well-being through a range of services that help people remain in their homes for as long as possible.
COA is a state-designated Area Agency on Aging, serving a 5 county region. One call to COA links people to the wide variety of agencies, information and programs that serve older adults and people with disabilities.
COA has more than 300 employees, close to 300 contracted providers, and an annual budget of $102.7 million.

Position Description:
To provide benefits support to individuals enrolled in Fast Track Home and Elderly Services Programs and those calling in to ADRC/Front Door that need additional assistance to understand benefits available to them through their health insurance.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Contact individuals for general review of services and supports (Review Health and Safety needs, current Health status, service review)
  • Provide information, resources, and connection to benefits individuals/representative may qualify for through their health plan.
  • Contact individuals to verify follow up on action items until connection is complete.
  • Advocate/assist individuals who are unable to communicate effectively with various service systems.
  • Communicate regarding case status, insurance benefits/resources.
  • Document all activities as per departmental policy and procedure and team specific processes.
  • Enter pertinent information into appropriate computer programs
  • Adhere to the Clinical Standards
  • Provide backup/support to other COA teams as deemed necessary.
Qualification Requirements:
  • Minimum of two years of education in social work/psychology/education or related field; and one year of experience in direct customer service or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • OSHIIP certification preferred or must obtain OSHIIP certification within 1 year.
  • Experience in navigating client insurance benefits
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of issues related to the elderly and disabled population
  • Builds cooperation among team members; treats team members equitably.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge of community resources within Southwestern Ohio.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent change.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and problem solve in a self-directed team environment.
  • Excellent computer skills, including the Windows operating and email system, MS Word, MS Excel, data entry and the ability to learn new software applications as needed.
