Title: Health Coordinator

Reports To: Early Head Start Director

Position Summary: Coordinate health services for infants, toddlers and pregnant women with staff and appropriate community providers to support the growth and development of children and families.

Essential Functions:

• Implement the Performance Standards in all activities, particularly in the area of health and healthy child development.
• Provide training and technical assistance to EHS staff on health procedures.
• Carry out job functions in various program settings based on programmatic needs as determined by EHS Director.
• Work with staff and families to ensure infants and toddlers follow prescribed schedules of well baby care, have documented physical forms in place and assist with follow-up care as needed.
• Work with staff and families to ensure infants and toddlers receive necessary and age appropriate immunizations as recommended by PA EPSDT guidelines.
• Work with staff and pregnant women to track appropriate pre-natal care and follow-up on identified risk factors.
• Visit newborn within prescribed two-week time frame.
• Coordinate with EHS director appropriate health and safety trainings as required by the Head start Performance Standards and OSHA.
• Work with childcare partner centers to ensure health information on children is up-to-date in the areas of physical and immunization schedules.
• Work with EHS and childcare partner centers in establishing a policy for handling health emergencies.
• Establish and update annually a health handbook for parents and their families.
• Ensure that a First Aid Kit is available in all rooms utilized for socialization experiences, the childcare center rooms and that each Home Visitor carries one. Provide additional supplies for same-said kits as needed.
• Coordinate health referrals for families.
• Work with Head Start Health Manager in the establishment and facilitation of the Health Services Advisory Committee.
• Work with staff in assessing the nutritional status of the child/pregnant women and follow-up with special nutritional needs of the children/pregnant women.
• Train staff and coordinate vision screenings of infants and toddlers. Ensure follow-up on suspect screenings.
• Train staff and coordinate hearing screenings of infants and toddlers. Ensure follow-up on suspect screenings.
• Train staff and coordinate dental screenings of infants and toddlers. Ensure follow-up on suspect screenings.
• Ensure lead and hemoglobin screenings are done on infants and toddlers as prescribed by the EPSDT schedule. Ensure follow-up on suspect screenings.
• Track height and weight of infants and toddlers on appropriate tracking form.
• Obtain non-federal share and in-kind forms from volunteers and donated supplies or services to the program and submit to ERSEA/Family/Community Coordinator.
• Attend community meetings to represent the EHS program as required.
• Travel between EHS program sites as required.

Other responsibilities:

• Participate in trainings, meetings, conferences and program reporting as relevant to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

1. RN certification with experience with pediatrics and immunizations.

Other Requirements:

1. Physical examination and Tuberculin test.

2. Child Abuse, Criminal Record, and FBI clearances as required by law.

3. Current PA driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance liability.

4. Must have I-9 proof of employment eligibility.

5. Training or trade certificates a plus.

6. First Aide, CPR certification.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.37 - $35.00 per hour
