JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Pipeline Operator is responsible for assisting with duties related to the daily operations and maintenance of company owned pipelines. Assists with pipeline maintenance projects such as pigging operations, start-ups, shut-downs and routine maintenance on compressors and other pipeline components and systems. The Assistant Pipeline Operator works under close supervision and is responsible for performing back-up duties for more senior pipeline operators.

Job requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with and performs pigging operations at various checkpoints on pipeline
  • Assists with and maintains dehydration systems on the pipeline
  • Monitors and assists with compressor stations operations
  • Assists with and monitors various flow control equipment
  • Performs preventative pipeline facility maintenance
  • Assists with troubleshooting of related subsystems, including startups, shut-downs and combustion control issues
  • Assists with and operates meter stations, pipeline facilities, corrosion control and right-of-way maintenance as necessary
  • Assist in field recovery following system outages or curtailments
  • Provides back-up for operators who are absent
  • Complies with all regulatory, environmental and safety rules and standards, as well as company policies
  • Other tasks as assigned

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Basic understanding of power tools and manual mechanics tools
  • Must be a team player with ability to adapt in fast paced environment
  • Basic computing skills strongly prefered

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School or GED

This position typically requires skills normally obtained through the completion of High School, GED or equivalent.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Less than 6 months - This is an entry level position; prior oil and gas experience is preferred, but not required.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND

Work is typically performed outdoors. Exposure to conditions, such as extreme heat or cold is likely. Incumbents in this position must be able to physically and legally operate company vehicles and equipment. Employees must be able to perform work which requires walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, heavy lifting, and climbing, including steps and vertical ladders. Personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes and flame resistant clothing is required. Safety rules including OSHA requirements are strictly enforced. Employees must be willing to travel and work extended hours on short notice.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires a valid state issued driver's license, and employees must pass an initial drug and alcohol screening at hire. Incumbents in the position may be subject to random drug and alcohol screenings as per the DOT Regulations. Required to travel between field sites to perform daily tasks.
