Serve as technical expert in the development of novel optical metrology systems; design & execute optical experiments to solve problems & develop optical metrology systems; document data by writing reports & standard operating procedures for laboratory processes & instrumentation; support technology transfer to development receivers; prepare technical presentations for customers & conferences; & train technicians on equipment & processes. Up to 5% domestic travel. Required: Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, optics, or closely related. 1 yr. exp.: developing optical metrology systems to characterize product attributes & test product performance; applying fundamental understanding of optical physics to solve metrology problems for products & processes; developing optical prototypes to demonstrate novel metrology concepts & solutions for product attributes; using programming & statistics tools (i.e. MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, JMP) to process & analyze experimental results; & documenting experimental results in technical reports, journals, or patents.
