General Functions:

The Recovery Support Specialist provides substance use and mental health treatment services to strengthen recovery and increase community functioning, assisting persons served to achieve their recovery goals. The Recovery Support Specialist utilizes their own experiences with recovery to support and motivate persons served in their recovery process.

Specific Functions:

  • Recovery Support Specialist will provide peer recovery support services during active treatment episodes, as well as during after-care services, to strengthen the recovery of persons served.

o Participate in ongoing peer recovery professional training, education and performance support.

o Connect persons served to a larger community of care.

o Facilitate timely referrals and placements to treatment recovery support providers.

o Engage in recovery planning with recoverees.

  • Recovery Support Specialist will deliver and document facility and community-based peer recovery support services to meet the needs of persons served as indicated by individual treatment and recovery plans. Services may include:

o Recovery Support Services

o Community Support

o Crisis Intervention

o Case Management

o Medication Training

  • Recovery Support Specialist will facilitate evidence-based peer recovery support services for department consumers, including but not limited to WRAP and WHAM, as well as other peer recovery support groups.
  • Recovery Support Specialist will record the process and results of services in sufficient detail to meet SUPR Rule 2060, Medicaid Rule 140, Illinois DMH Rule 132, insurance billing requirements, and to meet or exceed assigned weekly billing quotas as determined by the Director of Behavioral Health.
  • Recovery Support Specialist will communicate on a regular basis with CDP treatment team members to assure consistency in treatment and facilitation of the Individual Treatment and Recovery Plan.
  • Recovery Support Specialist will escalate concerns regarding individuals' well-being and/or lack of contact to supervisors in a timely manner.
  • Recovery Support Specialist will participate in mandatory weekly CDP team meetings with the Coordinator of CDP and seek ongoing clinical supervision from supervisors.
  • Recovery Support Specialist will participate in all agency and department trainings, committees, monthly department meetings, and any additionally recommended training or meetings as required by supervisor(s).
  • Recovery Support Specialist will provide telephonic only crisis intervention services in accordance with the staff rotation on the weekly crisis line schedule. Maximum of two weekly rotations per year. Crisis phone provided.
  • Recovery Support Specialist will bbtain and maintain recovery specialist certification, as well as any other agency-required certifications (i.e. CPR/FA, etc.).
  • Maintain ongoing compliance with all agency-related training and certification requirements.
  • Respond per established procedures to all emergency situations including medical, behavioral, fire, severe weather, and other hazards.
  • Operate agency or personal vehicle in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Own, maintain, and use personal smartphone for company business in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be a past recipient of substance use treatment services who is in advanced stages of recovery and be willing to share personal recovery experience to support persons served. Must be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS), or a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) willing to pursue CPRS. One year of supervised experience preferred. Must be at least 21 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor's degree preferred. Preferred knowledge/skills: experience working with persons with mental health disorders; understanding of medication-assisted recovery (MAR) and practices; familiarity with local support services, resources, and recovery community; understanding of and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries; cross-cultural skills and experience with culturally diverse populations. Experience with Medicaid Rule 2060, 140 and 132 documentation and billing preferred. Must be willing to work evening hours as necessary. Proficiency in the use of computers and typing, and working knowledge of MS Word and MS Outlook applications required. Driving record and auto insurance coverage in compliance with agency policy. A post offer physical and criminal background check required. EOE.
