The European Department has an opening, in its Southeastern 2 (S2) Unit, for an Economist/Senior Economist to work as a desk on Greece.
Greece is recovering strongly, ending a decade of stagnation after the sovereign debt crisis, with notable improvement in its economic outlook. However, despite regaining sovereign investment grade and improving bank balance sheets, structural imbalances arising from low household savings and still low level of investment as well as low productivity are weighing on medium-term growth prospects. The assignment is a good opportunity for an Economist/Senior Economist to gain experience and/or demonstrate their analytical skills on a surveillance country. The selected candidate will be involved in various aspects of economic analysis and desk work, such as contributing to the macroeconomic framework, policy notes, and staff reports, together with the other desks. She/he will also be expected to contribute to the broader agenda of the department by participating in analytical projects and/or working groups.

Qualifications
In addition to the qualifications set forth in the job standards, the successful candidate should have strong analytical, communication, diplomatic and organizing skills, sound judgment, the ability to design research strategies to help address policy questions, and solid knowledge of Fund policies and procedures. In addition, the selected candidate should have strong skills to foster effective work relations with authorities and peers in a collegial manner.
