Department and Position Background

Cornell University, a nationally ranked Ivy League institution, is looking for a Program Assistant to join the Alumni Affairs & Development division in Ithaca, NY.

The Class, Student and Young Alumni Programs team annually engages over 1,400 class volunteers, 8,000 Reunion attendees, and thousands of Cornell alumni. The Program Assistant reports to the Director of Reunion Programs for central Alumni Affairs and Development. The position is pivotal in facilitating division-wide engagement effort and strengthening Cornell’s relationship with its alumni. This role can expect to engage with a variety of teams across AAD and will be involved with marketing and communications efforts, business intelligence and data analysis, and event infrastructure support. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, customer-orientation, and a willingness to learn and use a variety of technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support email marketing and mailing operations
  • Help coordinate volunteer-focused training sessions and informational resources
  • Capture and track volunteer service and event engagement data
  • Produce reporting critical to analyzing the success of CSYAP projects, programs, and initiatives
  • Assist with coordination of on-campus Reunion headquarters and staffing operations
  • Front-line customer service for general class, Reunion, Homecoming, and special interest alumni inquiries
  • Support of finance and accounting operations

Core Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree and 2 to 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination
  • Must be comfortable learning new technology
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends
  • Willingness to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues
  • Excellent customer service skills and problem solving
  • Must have strong interpersonal, communication and administrative skills
  • Must be able to maintain lasting relationships on behalf of the university
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellbeing
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, alumni, staff, administrators, and community members
