About the Department

The Undergraduate Admissions Office (UAO) provides leadership for prospect management, student recruitment and communication, admissions social media, application processing, the prospective student visit experience, yield strategy and coordination, market research, long-range planning, and admissions volunteer engagement. UAO also directs university-wide enrollment efforts for special populations, including the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of underrepresented students and international students. The office coordinates these functions for Cornell’s undergraduate divisions (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; College of Architecture, Art, and Planning; College of Arts and Sciences; College of Engineering; College of Business; College of Human Ecology; School of Industrial and Labor Relations).


The Opportunity

As part of the Enrollment division, UAO works closely with Cornell’s Office of the University Registrar, Financial Aid, and many other University stakeholders in support of Cornell’s diverse, world-class students and their success.

We are seeking a dynamic, hard-working Associate Director of Admissions to assist with the university’s strategic recruitment program, school relations and alumni admissions volunteer program in an assigned region. In partnership with the Undergraduate Admissions Office and under general leadership of the Director of Admissions, the Associate Director of Admissions will plan, strategize, coordinate, and manage reporting on admissions activities for assigned recruitment region. They will also research, create and develop a unified communications plan in collaboration with the college/school admissions offices and under leadership of the Director of Admissions,. With attention to recent restructuring and reprioritization, the Associate Director of Admissions will collaborate extensively with the Enrollment Communications Team as well as research and strategically liaise with potential external partners.

This position is full-time (1 FTE), two-year fixed term, hybrid position based in Ithaca, NY with a possibility of extension dependent on funding availability, performance and/or interest. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.


What We Need

  • Bachelor’s degree and more than three years of admissions experience or student services experience or equivalent combination.
  • Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and writing abilities required.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Candidates should have experience with college admissions and recruitment activities as well as demonstrated commitment to and success at recruiting and enrolling students.
  • Travel 2-3 weeks a year for recruitment activities.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Direct experience with admissions and recruiting in a highly selective and competitive environment. Experience with the use of data in admissions and recruiting desirable.
  • Experience using PS, Slate, and Image Now desirable.
  • Recruitment, marketing, digital communications, and experience working within a CRM.
  • Creative and design experience preferred.

  • This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The position may allow for the flexibility to work remotely at a location of employee’s choosing within the United States. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
