Cornell Financial Engineering Manhattan (CFEM) was founded in 2007 to serve as New York City-based campus for the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering. CFEM mission is to provide practical education for students enrolled in ORIE’s Master of Engineering with Financial Engineering concentration (MEng FE). MEng FE is a 3-semester program that requires all students to spend 3rd semester at CFEM. In addition to academic programs, CFEM delivers broad professional education to MEng FEs. This educational component has become essential as the overall MEng FE evolved in order to remain competitive and attract the best talent. Professional development is designed to assist Meng FE students, throughout their 3-semester tenure at Cornell, with preparation needed to start their careers in financial engineering and recruit for summer internships and full-time jobs.

While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.

Reporting to the Director of Administration for ORIE with day-to-day direction from the Director of Cornell Financial Engineering Manhattan, primary responsibilities for the Associate Director for Career Development are: 1) actively guide MENG FE students through the job search process via one-on-one and small group coaching sessions;

2) engage with industry partners and alumni to create a portfolio of potential employers and high-quality job opportunities for MENG FE students (both full-time and internships) with a strong emphasis on cultivating relationships with employers who hire international students; and 3) collaborate with the Director of CFEM to provide networking, professional development, and employment opportunities such as information sessions, resume drops, and workshops.

This position is located in New York City.

  • Comfortable and effective working with a diverse and largely international student population.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of college career advising, graduate/professional student career advising, industry hiring, or equivalent combination.
  • Knowledge of career services resources and job search strategies, with clear understanding of additional challenges faced by international students.
  • Comfortable knowledge of major professional social media resources, such as LinkedIn
  • High level of integrity in the workplace showing reliability, trustworthiness, accountability, and dependability.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; strong presentation skills for small and large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple short- and long-term projects.
  • Experience utilizing and applying technology to enhance the student career development process.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and respectful working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and industry partners.
  • Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with current laws impacting hiring of international STEM graduate students and the HIB application process.
