The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) is a 36 bed ICU located in the Meijer Heart Center specializing in highly acute post-cardiac and advanced heart failure patients. Nurses are drawn to CTICU for its acuity and ability to work at the top of a Registered Nurses’ scope of practice. Our nurses are able to care for a wide range of patients and devices including heart/lung transplant patients, post-operative open-heart patients, patients requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), CentriMag, Impella, and long-term ventricular assist devices (VAD). CTICU nurses are experts in caring for the most critically ill patients in our area and throughout Michigan. We are at the forefront of cardiac medicine, engaging in cutting-edge innovation and research. CTICU nurses are a vital part of the multi-disciplinary team making personalized health simple, affordable and exceptional.

Summary

Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA. This includes ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree Nursing - Required
  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing must be obtained within 5 years
  • Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program - Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License in State of Michigan - Required Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required within 90 days
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Required within 180 days

  • Clinical Area of Specialty Certification Preferred
