Job Summary
Provides medical oversight for all EHS offices across the enterprise. Assures the adequacy and appropriateness of direct and indirect medical care, provides input in the development of treatment plans, and oversees pharmaceutical/diagnostic needs of team members. The Medical Director, in partnership with the Director of Employee Health Services, provides system leadership, develops policies and procedures to improve clinical outcomes and maintain regulatory compliance, and collaborates with other system leaders to inspire a shared vision and support strategic initiatives at Corewell Health.This position will report to the Chief QSE Officer and have a dyad relationship with the VP of Well-Being. The Medical Director of EHS understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Corewell Health in leadership behaviors, practices, and decisions. The Medical Director will model behaviors which support continuous learning and in collaboration with the Director of Employee Health Services, represent EHS at system level forums. This role will require strong management and oversight skills, awareness of organizational management, and a willingness to engage in system-level changes in partnership with Employee Safety, Leave Administration, Infection Prevention, Risk, Legal, and Compliance.
Essential Functions
  • Provides medical supervision for clinic team members providing care at various locations across the organization.
  • Responsible for collaborating with Employee Health Services Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Collaborates with Infectious Disease, Infection Prevention, Compliance, Legal, Risk, and Leave Administration to standardize and align quality and safety metrics.
  • Consults in the analysis and interpretation of results and guides the need to implement treatment.
  • Facilitates new practices that eliminate care variation in EHS offices to drive high quality care at lowest cost.
  • Partners as an effective stakeholder to provide input in data analysis which supports team member compliance dashboards.
  • Advocate for preventative injury/illness solutions and measures through a partnership with Employee Safety.
  • Assist with the development of innovative strategies that focus on improving the health and wellness of team members which impacts organizational cost.
  • Reviews medical literature to identify standards of practice, quality improvement initiatives, and cost saving measures.
  • Serves as the medical liaison for the Employee Health and Safety Governance Committee to guide, develop or amend EHS policies/procedures that impact team members.
Qualifications
  • Required Doctorate
  • 5 years of relevant experience clinical practice Required
  • Experience navigating within an integrated care system that includes multiple hospitals, a pluralistic medical staff, as well as an insurance product. Required
  • A proven track record in improving quality and safety in a complex health system Required
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of current trends in health care, including physician hospital relations, quality improvement processes, clinical information systems, and the implications of a changing health care environment for team members. Required
  • Excellence in patient experience Preferred
  • Process improvement experience with demonstrable results Preferred
  • Infection prevention experience Preferred
  • LIC-Physician (MD) - STATE_MI State of Michigan required Or
  • LIC-Osteopathic Physician (DO) - STATE_MI State of Michigan required
