Summary of Position Purpose

The Accountant II will play a crucial role on the Finance Team in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This position involves analyzing financial data, reconciling accounts, and providing support to senior accounting staff. The Accountant II will contribute to the overall financial health and integrity of the organization through diligent and detail-oriented work and offers the exciting potential to progress into a more senior role!

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage day-to-day accounting tasks, including general ledger entries and bank reconciliations.
  2. Prepare financial statements and reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  3. Assist in preparing federal and regulatory reports such as the quarterly Call Report.
  4. Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes by providing relevant financial data and analysis.
  5. Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies and investigate their causes, proposing corrective actions when necessary.
  6. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulations.
  7. Support audits by providing documentation and explanations for financial transactions and processes.
  8. Stay updated on accounting standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and recommend improvements.
  9. Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by management, contributing accounting expertise and insights.
  10. Regular attendance is required.
  11. Other activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee may be assigned.

Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably in a corporate environment
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with ProfitStar, PeopleSoft, and Business Intelligence tools a plus
  • Experience with financial statement preparation, analysis, and reconciliation
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements

Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Solid understanding of financial principles and practices, including budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to identify issues, analyze root causes, and propose solutions.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new skills and technologies as needed in a dynamic work environment.
  • Self-starter with the initiative to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
