SUMMER 2024 ENGINEERING INTERNSHIPCompany Description:Energy Center Minneapolis (ECM) is one of Cordia’s largest and longest-running district energy systems. ECM has served downtown customers for over 50 years. Operating since 1972, the system’s central plant and eight satellite plants supply both heating and cooling to over 100 customers in a diverse range of industries.Minneapolis is a rapidly growing city, and our system is designed to grow with it. New customers can easily sign on and experience the benefits of district energy.Purpose of Job:Allow student to develop practical experience in applying their academic knowledge to the needs of a commercial district heating and cooling system.Develop engineering talent in the community Cordia serves.Advance Cordia’s strategic engineering initiatives and ESG goalsJob Description:Activities are anticipated to include:Laser scanning of Cordia’s Minneapolis system plants and distribution vaults.Development of a system to organize engineering records.Prioritization and updating of standard company engineering specifications.Early-stage development of capital projects. These projects will likely focus on greenhouse gas emissions and/or water usage reduction.Job Qualifications:The ideal candidate will:Enjoy collaborating with others to solve challenging technical problems.Be open to challenges.Have previous paid work experience.Currently be pursuing a BS degree in engineering (preferably Mechanical) with a minimum of 2 years coursework completed.Learning Objectives:Student worker will learn how their technical knowledge is applied to real world situations.Student worker will become familiar with the technical person’s role in a business.Student worker will gain specific knowledge of the design and operation of a district energy business.Working ConditionsNormal plant environment and/or outdoors work environment which may include working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations.Requires adherence to plant safety practices including wearing personal protective safety equipment (safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.). This equipment will be provided by the company.Requires operation of a personal computerRequires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment.
