Position Information: CORA is currently seeking Orientation and Mobility Specialists to provide support to the educational process for students who need orientation and mobility services due to low vision issues. Working as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist with CORA, you will: * Assess the functional abilities of students to determine program eligibility and propose recommendations for treatment and appropriate assistive devices. * Collaborate with a variety of groups and individuals (e.g. teacher of the visually impaired, students, parents, teachers, administration, team members, other professionals, etc.) to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines. * Consult with teachers, parents, and other related service providers, providing requested information, developing plans for service, making recommendations, and coordinating orientation and mobility services with other disciplines. * Instruct students in the use of various equipment and materials (e.g. tactile maps, models, low vision devices, adaptive mobility devices, long canes, tablet and mobile phone apps, electronic aids, etc.) to minimize the adverse impact of visual impairments, helping students reach their highest level of independence. * Maintain a variety of documents, files, and records (e.g. progress reports, activity logs, billing information, service plans, etc.) to ensure the availability of information as required for reference and compliance. * Prepare a wide variety of written materials, including activity logs, schedules, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, and progress reports. * Provide direct orientation and mobility instruction in appropriate settings to maintain compliance with established goals and objectives by developing skills in: * student independent travel * activities of daily living * recreation and leisure, and * self-advocacy skills. * Research new orientation and mobility techniques, community resources, equipment, and materials to determine the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals. * Respond to inquiries from parents, teachers, staff, and students as needed. * Train support staff, parents, and other personnel to support students' independent movements and to incorporate orientation and mobility techniques into daily classroom and home routines. Qualified candidates for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist should possess: * Bachelor's degree in low vision education required; Master's degree preferred * PA Department of Education Instructional certification in vision instruction * Certificate, Orientation and Mobility Specialist Please note: All new hires are expected to be fully vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to starting work with CORA Services.
