Copper Moon Coffee is Hiring a Quality Control Technician Near Lafayette, IN

The 3rd shift QC Technician position functions as essential support for the needs of Copper Moon Coffee. This position will work closely with our Quality Director and Quality team to assume responsibility for performance monitoring and Quality Control throughout our production facility. This role requires the ability to communicate well with employees at all levels in the organization. The Quality Technician will be responsible for training all employees on appropriate quality processes and expectations in order to better detect and prevent quality issues on the coffee production line(s). The job is divided into an 80/20 split of product quality testing in a laboratory environment and GMP/Food Safety monitoring and enforcement. Applicant must be able/willing to travel around the entirety of the production area collecting samples for laboratory analysis while auditing production lines, perform the required tests on the production samples, and meticulously log the data electronically into a pre-established system. Upon finding process deviations or failures in testing, the Quality Technician will assist the maintenance and production departments to quickly and efficiently test, troubleshoot, and solve the issue in order to minimize down-time on production lines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize tools and equipment to maintain and improve product quality for bagged and single cup items
  • Evaluate data and write reports to validate and show deviations from existing standards
  • Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality
  • Assist in the required monitoring of the quality management system on specific assigned shift
  • Monitor key quality components including but not limited to; nitrogen levels, packaging integrity, and single cup brewer performance (via actual brew testing).
  • Work with production operators to improve quality standards
  • Inspect production operators to ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards.
  • Responsible for gaining an innate understanding of Copper Moon Coffee’s production flow and processes
  • Analyze brewing efficiency of any returned/damaged/defective product to find a solution for current or future issues
  • Maintain lab environment including general housekeeping and cleaning equipment
  • Act as a champion of quality, driving awareness of SQF/FSMA program to assigned shift and helping operators better understand quality and its importance

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associates/Technical degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Quality Laboratory experience in lieu of education considered; preferred food quality background.
  • Ability to do intermediate arithmetic
  • Strong communication skills are a must
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to instruct, aid, assess operator performance
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • Working knowledge of GMP preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
