Manager, Recreational Therapy

The Manager, Recreation Therapy must be able to provide expertise in creating and leading recreational therapy for adolescents with mental health and co-occurring diagnosis.

Copper Hills Youth Center, located in West Jordan, Utah, is a residential treatment facility (behavioral health care) serving male and female 12-17 year olds who have been diagnosed with psychiatric disorders. Behavioral therapists are part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team and have strong clinical support and supervision.

• Reports to the Director of Clinical Services.
• Lead enriching evening and weekend programming, coordinate with the multidisciplinary team to plan and facilitate on-campus (and off-campus) activities for the youth.
• Responsible for collaboration with recreation therapy team in scheduling activities, preparing materials, planning, and managing a budget, and leading the groups.
• Ensure youth safety, encourage engagement, and help youth use skills to manage challenging behaviors and work towards their treatment goals.
• Supervise recreational volunteers and staff.
• Create recreational therapy treatment plans and programs that meet youth needs and interests.
• Complete documentation in the time frame specified.
• Audit recreation therapy documentation and programming, identify ways to improve and create action plans to achieve those goals.

Qualifications include, but are not limited to:

• 3 years in a Recreational Therapy Supervisory role, required
• Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or related field, Master's degree preferred
• Therapeutic Recreation Specialist active license in Utah, in good standing
• Certificate as a CTRS, preferred
• 4 years experience in recreational therapy or related mental health field required, in a residential treatment program highly preferred
• Experience in group activity planning and facilitation, required
• Safe driving record, requires
• Customer service, effective written and verbal communication skills with all levels of staff
• Diagnostic skills, knowledge of mental illness and its treatment
• Knowledge of safety, risk management, and emergency procedures
