Copley Health System is Hiring a RN Clinical Coordinator - The Birthing Center Near Morrisville, VT

Overview

The RN Clinical Coordinator is a registered professional nurse, who under the general direction of the Birthing Center supervisor, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit. The role has four primary functions:

  • Operational management of the patient care process
  • Team building
  • Clinical and customer service role modeling
  • Administration management and support
  • Provides oversight of staff. Serves as a lead, clinical resource, role model, and extension of management to uphold institutional priorities, policies, and practices. Participates in performance management of staff members including coaching education and training, practice oversight, and contributing to the performance management process. Assists/mediates to maintain smooth operations of the unit. Performs service recovery to promote patient and employee retention. 

    Facilitate orientation and training for employees. 

    Responsibilities

    Clinical Role Modeling

    • Provides clinical leadership in the formulation, review, and revision of policy and procedures. Models’ excellent patient care and is a resource to staff in caring for complex patients.
    • Utilizes quality improvement systems to evaluate care and patient outcome.
    • Provides excellent patient care and customer service
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on psycho-social,educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patient served.
    • Mentors all staff in knowledge, skills, interactions, care plan development, clinical problem solving through direct care and team-based care.Utilizes available resources to support assessment and planning of care in non-routine situations.
    • Intentionally assures relevant exposure and experience to clinical situations which enhance learning for each team member.
    • Actively demonstrates relationships with patients and families which respects and values the diverse interests and requirements of each patient.
    • Oversees ongoing improvement of patient satisfaction.

    Nurse Leader

    • Continuously meets all elements and essential functions of Staff RN Job description
    • Schedules self regularly for nursing shifts.
    • Backs up staff when patient volumes or acuity is high.

    Operational Management

    • Uses independent judgment to coordinate nursing activities on a day-to-day basis.
    • Assesses incoming patients for placement and to assure immediate/urgent needs are met.
    • Explains clinical decision rationales/judgments which impact the team (e.g., Assignments) in clear and understandable language.
    • Responsible for staffing and scheduling on their unit. Develops a core staff schedule. Adjusts daily staffing/skill mix to meet patient care needs in the most fiscally responsible approach to flex staffing
    • Efficiently utilizes available resources: supplies, equipment, support departments, etc.
    • Assures efficient use of available resources.
    • Supports team in developing priorities and in creating prioritization methods.
    • Communicates changes in service, equipment and supplies to appropriate personnel and departments.
    • Assures that team based assignments are competency-based
    • Supports staff in learning and assimilating outcomes management process into daily routines (discharge instructions, core measures, etc.
    • Coordinates new and/or revised policies and procedures for unit using Evidenced Based Best Practice Standards. Ensures protocols, policies,procedures and practice is relevant,safe, efficient,effective and meets regulatory compliance
    • Develops,implements,monitors and evaluates clinical quality assurance/quality improvements activities ensuring compliance with standards,laws,regulations, and procedures.
    • Serves as key problem solving resource for staff on patient care issues. 

    Team Building

    • Provides leadership for employees. 
    • Assures coordination of care with appropriate community resources and utilizes other health care team members to provide continuity and transfer of care for patients and their significant others.
    • Collaborates with clinical nurses and other members of the health care team to problem-solve complex clinical or administrative situations
    • Facilitates and assists in developing plans for individual and team development.
    • Participates in the development and facilitation of team discussions and facilitates conflict resolution process
    • Promotes relevancy and the existence of appropriate and timely communications.
    • Promotes and encourages a cooperative working environment among all co workers conducive to continuous improvement in clinical and administrative areas.
    • Provides opportunities for the participation of all team members in activities, discussions and decisions as appropriate.
    • Assists with formal evaluations for team members within hospital guidelines.
    • Assists in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of new employees in collaboration with Human Resources and Department Director/Nurse Manager. 

    Administrative Management and Support

    • Plans for and implements activities relating to the development of administrative competencies.
    • Works with the Unit leadership to define administrative learning needs and developmental plans.
    • Attends relevant educational and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills
    • Is accountable to supervisor for selected administrative task completion and for the teaching of and assuring competence in other team members (e.g.; Scheduling, payroll, and assignments).
    • Supports the unit’s continuous improvement process.
    • Assures cooperative interactions with other units/departments.
    • Assists supervisor with the resolution of problems, and issues that become intractable at the team level.
    • Understands regulatory requirements and translates them for all team members into daily routines and expectations.
    • Understands and enforces organizational policies relating to conditions of employment (e.g. time and attendance, parking, smoking policies, etc.)
    • Notifies direct supervisor of infractions of policy, procedure, laws, and regulations as they are identified. Notifies the supervisor’s manager of the same if the supervisor does not correct or resolve the issue within a reasonable time frame. Notifies the Corporate Compliance Officer of any issues that continue to be unresolved
    • In collaboration with providers, and overseeing leader participates in the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of nursing and clinical support staff.
    • Applies leadership skills appropriately. Coordinates care with the multidisciplinary team, interacts in a professional manner, communicates directly providing ongoing followup and feedback.
    • Serves as a clinical liaison between The Birthing Center and The Women's Center. partners with The Womens Center leadership team to ensure standards of care are aligned and nursing practice is safe, effective, and evidenced based across the continuum of care.
    • In collaboration with providers and supervisors participates in the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of clinical support staff.
    • Applies critical thinking knowledge, and integration skills and considers alternatives in a multitasking workload. Collects integrate data from multiple sources and seek assistance information appropriately.
    • Communicates with patients, team members, and management in an accurate and timely manner. Reports pertinent data, completes forms and charting, protects confidentiality, leads staff meetings.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Education Requirements:

    • Associates Degree in Nursing

    Education Desired:

    • BSN preferred

    Experience Requirements:

    • Must include OB, women's health services, ambulatory nursing experience
    • Experience in expanded nursing role i.e. education, quality,charge or team lead

    License and Certification Requirements:

    • Active Vermont RN license in good standing
    • Required: BLS, NRP completion and annual Electronic Fetal Monitoring course. (Required completion at first course offering after hire) and De-escalation training.
    • Recommended: Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) course, Lactation course cert., Car Seat Safety, S.T.A.B.L.E.

    Skill Requirements:

    • Must have significant leadership experience with a demonstrated capacity for independent thinking and action, as well as significant experience in making decisions both in group and autonomously. Must have experience in developing systems of organization.
    • Must be intellectually flexible and be able to think creatively and effectively under fluid and occasionally high-stress situations.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills required
    • Demonstrated abilities with problem-solving, leadership, communication, fiscal responsibility, and teamwork.
    • Ability to work effectively in groups of employees and with patients and patient families is essential
