Position Description:
GENERAL SUMMARY

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, to provide a variety of specialized services in support of the operations of the Oncology/Hematology clinic at Cooper Green. May check in scheduled and add-on patients to the clinic; answer telephone and route calls; enter demographic, insurance, and charge data into system. To check patients out of the clinic and perform patient follow-up as necessary. May perform other clerical duties related to collection, deposit, and recording of clinic revenue. To consistently demonstrate outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Arrives patients to the clinic (including, but not limited to, verifying patient enrollment, demographics, insurance, pharmacy information, etc; and collecting co-pays when applicable)
  • Checks patients out of the clinic after their visit
  • Accurately completes tasks related to patient’s financial responsibilities
  • Assists patient with completing forms for possible enrollment in Medicaid (or other insurance plans)
  • Communicates with various payers to initiate pre-authorizations of medications/therapies to be used, along with communicating with providers/pharmacist for appropriate diagnosis, HCPCS, and CPT codes
  • Ensures efficient daily operations for the clinic/department
  • Schedules patient appointments and follows up with no-shows to reschedule promptly
  • Performs a variety of clerical support functions for the clinic
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Two years’ experience in an oncology or other specialty practice as a financial counselor or authorization clerk.
Preferred:
Associates Degree
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role’s work location is on-site at Cooper Green Mercy Health Services. This is a full time role. The hours are Monday through Friday; 7 AM – 3:30 PM (or assigned to match the clinic hours). This role is a typical office environment and may require lifting up to 30lbs.
