Salary: $780.00 Per Day

The Cooke Institute, a division of the Cooke School and Institute, is dedicated to improving student outcomes through the professional growth of teachers. We are seeking highly experienced and passionate K -5 / K -8 literacy coaches to provide job-embedded coaching and development for NYC teachers and school leaders to advance literacy and inclusive practices that meet the academic needs of all students. Key components of this position include:

• Guide goal setting with school leaders and teachers in order to customize coaching plans; collaborate on action steps to be implemented and re-assessed during the coaching engagement.
• Support teachers / teams during coaching cycles to shift practices to implement evidence-based, systematic, and explicit literacy instruction and curriculum aligned to the science of reading, writing, and state standards.
• Facilitate the practice of small group, differentiated instruction and interventions responsive to individual literacy needs, based on analysis of on-ongoing formative assessment to guide instructional decisions specific to the unique needs of students.
• Facilitate debriefing and planning meetings, and reflective conversations; provide feedback based on data to deepen pedagogical practices and inform instruction specific to the unique needs of students.

• Build capacity by expanding knowledge base through professional learning communities focused on specific interests, trends, and/or initiatives within a school.

• Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies We Are Looking For

• Master's degree or higher in education or related fields, and appropriate teacher certification.
• A minimum of 5 years teaching experience and at least 3 years coaching teachers in literacy practices, ELA curriculum development, and designing/leading professional development.
• Special education experience/certification a plus; able to navigate the NYC special education landscape.
• School leadership knowledge, skills and experience a plus.
• Innovative and engaging leader who is able to coach and present workshops in dynamic ways.
• Excellent relationship builder and collaborator with staff, administrators, and all stakeholders.
• Deep knowledge of NYC school systems and capacity building.
• Strong leadership skills with several years of relevant experience.
• Comfort working in a highly collaborative start-up/entrepreneurial work environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Adept at adapting to change quickly and thoughtfully.
• Tenacious problem solver.
• Knowledge, experience, and comfort using Google Applications and other online tools to facilitate activities and record keeping.

Record Keeping, Reporting, and Professional Responsibilities:

• Maintain, organize, and submit all compliance documents in a timely and consistent manner.
• Provide timely daily documentation of coaching activities as required, and complete an end of consulting survey.
• Report to stakeholders on the impact of coaching interventions as required.
• Attendance required at Cooke Institute staff meetings.
• Deep commitment to Cooke School and Institute’s mission and vision.

Important Note:

• In order for you to be considered for this position, your status with the New York City Public Schools must be "inactive" for over 12 months.

• We partner with schools throughout NYC’s 5 boroughs. Travel reimbursement is not included.

Per Diem Rate- $780.00 per day.
