JOB DESCRIPION

Job Title: StoryKnife Intern-Peer Tutor

Department: YES

Reports to: YES Program Manager and StoryKnife Staff

Supervises: None

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Job Type: Part-time, Temporary

Pay Grade: PGM

AKBCU: No ICPA: Yes

General Functions:

StoryKnife Internship Program is a one year internship in which the intern will gain work experience by applying knowledge, skills, and abilities in a focused area of interest. The StoryKnife (SK) Intern will be responsible for providing assistance and support to the StoryKnife staff at their designated worksite. The SK Intern will perform a variety of duties depending on their assigned position and worksite. Each intern’s assigned position may include some, but not all, of the duties and responsibilities as listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Provide oversite and guidance during camps and off-site activities.
  • Make copies and scan and file electronic documents.
  • Inventory, store and maintain equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and set up computers, printers, and phones.
  • Identify and participate in a goal setting process to determine learning objectives.
  • Input data and information into documents as assigned.
  • Perform general grounds keeping activities as assigned.
  • Utilize the internet and e-mail to maintain contact with the Youth Employment Coordinator.
  • Assist various Anchorage or Mat-Su camp sites to engage children in daily activities as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Perform all duties as needed and assigned.

Job Specifications:

  • Ability to effectively work indoors or outdoors in various temperatures and conditions.
  • Ability to lift or push up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, and twist.
  • Ability to reach above and below shoulder level.
  • Ability to stand on a foot stool and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to kneel, crawl, bend, and twist at the waist.

Minimum Core Competencies: CITC Values, Respectful Leadership, Professionalism, Emotional Intelligence, Problem Solving/Critical Thinking, Communication Skills.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Must be eligible and qualified Alaska Native/American Indian applicant pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self-Determination Act.
  • Continued employment will be contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory report from a state and federal background check.

NATIVE PREFERENCE STATEMENT: Pursuant to the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act of 1975 (PL 93-638) and as further guided by CITC’s Native Preference Policy 6.120, CITC maintains preference in all phases of employment for Alaska Native, American Indian (AN/AI) and Native Hawaiian people, including direct lineal descendants and foster or traditionally adopted children. Also included are non-Native head of household members for Native families, which includes foster or traditionally adopted Native children.
