Characteristics of the Position

General Overview

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer in the Bureau of Information and Technology, the Enterprise Video System and Network Administrator will be responsible for the continuing operation and maintenance, both preventative and remedial, of all video systems under the control of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. They will plan, budget, and implement new audio, visual, telecommunication and access control projects as directed by the Chief Technical Officer. They will work with and within in all departments and properties under the responsibility of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. This includes but is not limited to the Cook County Department of Corrections, Cook County Courthouses, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department. They will serve as the liaison between the Department of Facilities Management and the County Bureau of Technology for site surveys and walk-throughs for all networking projects.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Plan, budget and implement projects at the direction of the Chief Technical Officer.

Identify any area of risk and/or vulnerabilities related to the daily operations and future health and safety of equipment, infrastructure, software as well as any other aspect of the video systems.

Develop innovative processes and policies that influence positive change and improvement in the video and communication systems and processes for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Ability to respond to any system need 24 hours per day 7 days per week.

Responsible for performing and maintaining records for the following, but not limited to, inventory, service records, daily equipment status.

Responsible for creating and submitting daily, weekly, and monthly status reports for, but not limited to, equipment as well as inventory and service.

Ability to perform confidential reviews and tasks.

Ability to develop and complete confidential policies and reports as requested.

Performs other related assignments and duties as directed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to work with extremely sensitive and confidential information, including criminal investigations.

Ability to meet prescribed deadlines.

Demonstrates and exhibits a willingness to work cooperatively and effectively with other departments and agencies while advancing the goals and mission of the CCSO.

Ability to think critically by evaluating a situation and make effective decisions under pressure.

Thorough working knowledge of, or ability to grasp and utilize, the policies, protocols, systems, procedures, and technical vernacular of the agency, Department, and County, as they are applicable to assigned duties and responsibilities quickly and effectively.

Effectively produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper grammar and spelling.

A high level of accuracy and proficiency in the use of computers, word processing, PC software and other computerized programs to manage and generate information, reports, letters, etc.

Skilled in interacting with others to gather and review confidential materials, information, and incidents of record.

Ability to develop and implement policies consistent with the Sheriff’s vision and initiative for programs within the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Understanding of Cloud Networking concepts and technology such as AWS and Azure.


Minimum Qualifications

10 years of experience managing, configuring, or installing enterprise level video surveillance and communication systems.

Bachelor’s degree in IT Network Administration.

Ability to work within the Cook County Department of Corrections, including the ability to encounter the detainee population.

Ability to walk long distances or stand for extended periods of time throughout the working day.

Preferred Qualifications

COMP TIA Network Plus certification or degree equivalent.

Low voltage audio/video installation knowledge.

Access control and communication systems knowledge.

Experience with law enforcement agency video systems.
