Conway Medical Center is Hiring an Emergency Department Technician Near Conway, SC

Position Summary:

The Emergency Department Tech (EDT), under the direction of the Nurse, performs initial basic life support interventions (airway, breathing, and circulation) on emergency department patients presenting for care. The EDT initiates life-saving measures, i.e., opening an airway, hemorrhage control, chest compressions, stabilization of fractures, cervical spine alignment/protection. The EDT stabilizes and extricates injured patients from vehicles at the emergency department entrance, assists patients to and from vehicles and the emergency department, and acts as a liaison between the patient family/significant other and the members of the emergency staff by maintaining open communication regarding patient condition, changes in condition, patient complaints, status, progress, etc. The EDT transports patients from triage/waiting area to the treatment area in the emergency department at the request of the Nurse. Additionally, the EDT will perform EKG’s and vital signs per policy and as directed by the nurse; assist patients with care needs; assist patients with requests for information; assist with labeling of specimens and making sure nurse or ED Tech receive specimen, hourly rounding for needs, comfort and pain rating.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Qualified as a ED Technician through one of nine ways required.
    • Current South Carolina State Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) or;
    • A minimum of one year MST or Clinical secretary experience in a hospital setting or;
    • Successful completion of Medical Assistant course or;
    • Phlebotomy training and certification or;
    • Successful completion of Dysrhythmia course and passing grade/certification or;
    • EMT or Paramedic Certification or;
    • Acceptance into an Accredited Nursing program and enrolled in the first semester coursework or;
    • Successful completion of second year pre-med curriculum track or;
    • A minimum of 1-year prior direct patient caregiver experience (Ie: home care, hospice, nursing home etc).
  • Current CMC Tech have been hired prior to Oct 1, 2014 grandfathered with on-the-job training without necessarily satisfying any of items 1-9 above.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) Certification must be obtained within 90-days of employment.

Special Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with nursing staff, physicians, department leadership, and other members of the patient care team form various departments.
  • Exemplary core customer service skills of Excellence, Compassion, Healing, Teamwork, Stewardship, Innovation and integrity strongly required.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Strong PC skills required.
  • Strong verbal communication skills required.

Working Conditions:

  • Works with patients with all levels of anxiety, diagnosis and dispositions.
  • Potential exposure to blood-borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Stress level high due to multiple demands frequently occurring.
  • General working in the hospital-based setting with temperature controlled environment.
  • Prolonged standing and walking required.
  • Potential Slip, Trip and Fall Hazards

Physical Demands:

  • Must complete and successfully pass the CMC Physical Competency Assessment at a “MEDIUM” overall rating (post offer tested by CMC Rehab Department)
