What our Client is looking forOur client, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting those who are victims of domestic violence, is looking for a Medical Advocacy Program (MAP) Coordinator for their administrative facility in the Phoenixville area. This position will develop and deliver training about Domestic Violence, Domestic Violence screening tools, resources, and other Domestic Violence related topics. The Medical Advocacy Program focuses on medical facilities and providers, including students in the allied health professions, licensed medical professionals, substance abuse programs/facilities, and behavioral health facilities. Under the Medical Advocacy Program, the coordinator will be responsible for facilitating connections and training with medical facilities and healthcare providers throughout Montgomery County.The person in this position must be able to work a variable work schedule that may include nights and weekends as needed.The starting rate for this position is $21/hour and is based on experience.Apply to learn more!What the position will be doing
  • Serve as a representative for Laurel House in coordinating contacts with hospitals, substance abuse facilities, behavioral health facilities, and medical facilities in Montgomery County so that these systems will view the agency as a resource for training about domestic violence as well as a resource for patients who may be experiencing DV.
  • Develop and deliver domestic violence-related training for medical personnel /facilities, substance abuse, behavioral health, and allied health professionals in Montgomery County.
  • Provide and/or ensure on-site appropriate response when called by a patient or staff person at a medical facility; assist with on-site response to other crisis response calls as appropriate.
  • Provide onsite time, response, and training to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as an Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Specialist.
  • Represent Laurel House for PCADV activities related to medical advocacy.
  • Represent Laurel House on community committees and events as requested, and/or as approved by the Director of Community Outreach.
  • Provide updates for the Laurel House website and Marketing Materials as appropriate.
  • Complete monthly statistics reporting and information for yearly funding applications in a timely fashion.
  • Participate in agency staff meetings and other activities as appropriate and/or as required.
  • Train staff members and/or volunteers who are responsible for providing direct services to domestic violence survivors about medical issues and resources surrounding DV.
  • At times, the person holding this position may be called upon to introduce new staff members and/or volunteers to key personnel within the medical systems that are served by Laurel House, to facilitate effective working relationships between these new agency staff members/volunteers and the medical personnel of the facilities throughout the region.
  • Research and create presentations related to medical trauma and domestic violence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or as necessary; remain flexible and adaptable with work assignments as defined by facility and organizational needs.
Necessary Skills, Education & Abilities
  • Experience working with victims of domestic violence, their families, and the community is preferred
  • High School Diploma required
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent experience, preferred
  • Experience in training health care providers about social services preferred
  • Bilingual capacity desirable
  • Highly transparent, ethical, and driven individuals
  • Relentless attention to detail and ability to be a creative self-starter and team player
  • Someone with a passion for, and embraces the mission of, supporting people in need, especially domestic violence survivors
  • Has reliable transportation and is willing and able to travel to different locations for work-related events
  • Ability to use technology – proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work effectively with coalitions and committees
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs
  • Proficient in developing training materials, delivering training curriculum, and public speaking
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
