What they are looking forOur client, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting those who are victims of domestic violence, is looking for a Community Educator to join their team. This position helps raise community awareness about domestic violence, adolescent relationship abuse and other domestic violence related topics by providing age-appropriate information to schools, colleges, businesses, faith-based communities, youth groups, and other community groups. This position engages in prevention programming in order to reduce the incidence and prevalence of intimate partner violence within various sectors of the community.The person in this position must be able to work a variable work schedule that may include nights and weekends as needed.The starting rate for this position is $19/hour and is based on experience.Apply to learn more!What the position will be doing
  • Serve as liaison for Montgomery County schools, colleges, youth and young adult groups seeking domestic violence and teen dating violence presentations, outreach activities and materials
  • Serve as the liaison for communities of faith, community groups, and businesses seeking domestic violence presentations and/or speakers. Coordinate with other staff when appropriate
  • Develop and implement customized training and education material for presentation to specific audiences
  • Present established curricula for middle schools and high schools, youth and young adult groups, and colleges throughout Montgomery County
  • Collect evaluations from all education and prevention programs
  • Organize and conduct training for parents, and for adult professionals who work with youth, on how to address teen dating violence
  • Assist in promoting and developing educational programs
  • Represent agency, as assigned, at collaborative networks, task force meetings, community events, seminars, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with the Community Education Coordinator to update program statistics and school and organization contact lists
  • Facilitate Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month projects such as social media campaign and Art Poster Contest
  • Other duties as assigned
Necessary Skills, Education & Abilities
  • High School Diploma required
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent experience, preferred
  • Understanding domestic violence and the community is preferred
  • Bilingual capacity desirable
  • Valid Driver’s License, auto insurance, and access to a personal vehicle
  • Ability to travel daily to presentation sites throughout Montgomery County (and contiguous counties as needed)
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively engage teens and young adults, as well as more mature audiences
  • Someone with a passion for, and embraces the mission of, supporting people in need, especially domestic violence survivors
  • Highly transparent, ethical, and driven individual
  • Experience with and comfortable with public speaking preferred
  • Relentless attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to use technology – proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work effectively with coalitions and committees
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility in scheduling, some weekend and evening work may be required
