Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Manage Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Department of Transportation (DOT) functions within the organization
  • Develop, implement and update EHS and Department of Transportation (DOT) policies and procedures ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations in a multi-state capacity
  • Conduct internal audits, risk assessments and analysis to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate and control such risks
  • Develop, implement, and manage safety training materials and programs for the organization including safety manuals, emergency response plans, first aid protocols, proper equipment usage and other safety protocols
  • Respond to external audits from regulatory bodies such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
  • Work closely with insurance providers, legal teams, and medical professionals to manage and resolve workers’ compensation claims; provide status updates to human resources department
  • Conduct EHS training for all employees including orientation, onboarding, toolbox talks, accident prevention, ensuring employees are aware of safety procedures and guidelines
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective measures
  • Oversee environmental programs and initiatives to minimize the impact of the organization’s activities on the environment
  • Recordkeeping and maintenance of OSHA 300 Maintain other records related to safety training, DOT, vehicle inspections, incidents, and other relevant information, demonstrating compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Manage organizations’ learning management and record keeping system (LMS) for EHS and DOT items
  • Work closely with COO and senior management to integrate safety practices into the overall business strategy
  • Manage the company’s fleet of vehicles which includes specialized This includes the procurement, disposal, sale, and/or lease renewal, inspections, repairs, routine maintenance, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations including driver qualification, hours of services, vehicle safety and inspections, licensing, and registration requirements
  • Contract management and negotiations for vendors, suppliers, and service providers for both EHS and DOT
  • Develop and manage fleet budget, including maintenance, fuel, and repair costs
  • Utilize fleet management systems and software to monitor vehicle performance and track driver behavior
  • Advise Chief Operating Officer of any nonconformance items, providing recommendations based on fact-findings
  • Recommend new approaches and/or policies for continual improvements in Health and Safety and DOT industries
  • Chair the company’s safety committee, promoting a culture of safety and injury prevention throughout the organization
  • Additional projects and team support as needed

Education, Experience and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, occupational safety and health, logistics, supply chain management or related field; OR Minimum five (5) years proven experience in EHS role
  • Experience in Facilities Solutions industry (i.e., HVAC, facilities services, facilities maintenance) preferred
  • Knowledge of fleet and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements in multi-state capacity preferred
  • Proficiency in using fleet management software and tools
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented and ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and apply sound business
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office365 products (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality

Physical Demand Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds at times

Travel Requirements

  • Travel as required
  • Valid driver’s license required
