Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Dispense oral, inhalation and topical medications to residents under direct supervision of a licensed nurse unless otherwise allowed by state law.
• Observe residents for drug reactions and report any problems to the licensed nurse.
• Perform tasks associated with medication administration, including resident vital signs, calculate medication dosages and stock the medication cart.
• Record medication administration according to facility procedure.
• Assist the nurse in providing care to residents, which includes observation and reporting of resident needs.
• Reports to the nurse resident refusal of meds, any deviation from the delegated medication administration, any unanticipated resident reaction to the medication administration, or anything that causes concern about the condition of the resident.
• Recognizes and performs tasks according to level of education and training.
• Accepts responsibility and accountability for own performance according to state laws and regulations.
• Performs tasks in an ethical, legal and caring manner.
• Performs tasks safely and effectively to assure resident comfort and welfare.
• Respects resident rights.
• Protects confidential resident information unless otherwise required to promote resident safety and welfare.
• Follows federal, state, and agency regulations to protect own health and that of others.
• Seeks guidance from the nurse as needed to perform tasks safely and efficiently.

• Recommendation from the facility DON or Administrator
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Active STNA Certification in the State of Ohio
• Completion of an Ohio Board of Nursing approved Medication Aide Training Program
• Active, unrestricted Medication Aide Certification by the Ohio Board of Nursing
• Must have High School diploma or equivalent
