CNA Insurance is seeking an Actuary to develop actuarial reserve strategies for Corporate, Mass Tort, and Asbestos & Pollution studies. These lines of business tend to be long tailed, include both well-defined and emerging hazards, and utilize non-standard actuarial techniques. It’s an ideal area to work in if you want to exercise your judgement and creativity. These large, long-tailed cases are highly visible and important to the bottom line. In this role you will also collaborate with business partners and Actuarial leaders. You will also act as an advisor to Actuarial peers by providing actuarial analyses in support of influencing reserving decisions, claim, and loss portfolio transfer strategies. For those candidates still sitting for exams, you will participate in our Actuarial Education Program which provides competitive study support and exam raises. In this position, you will also enjoy a hybrid work schedule that consists of one day per week in one of our CNA Actuarial Hub offices (New York City, NY; Warren, NJ; Radnor, PA; Chicago, IL and San Francisco, CA) with the option to work the remainder of your week remotely. JOB DESCRIPTION: Essential Duties & Responsibilities Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines: Collaborates with business partners and functional subject matter experts, provides actuarial input as needed. Partners with peers, business partners and leaders to support a specific segment's strategy through the use of actionable insights and analytics. Provides support in determining reserving strategy for an assigned area. May create and modify existing tools/analytics as needed. Proactively monitors reserving and claim trends across the various Corporate segments, and shares results with actuarial leaders and peers. Provides support to less experienced team members and help to manage projects as needed. Stays up to date in actuarial expertise and industry trends and development. Produces standard and special reports as needed. May perform additional duties as assigned. Reporting Relationship Director Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve moderately complex situations and issues. Demonstrates attention to detail. Solid knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts. Demonstrated technical expertise. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA’s internal and external business partners, influencing decisions. Capable of making critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority. Ability to work independently and as a team, leads multiple moderately complex projects. Ability to comprehend business data and metrics and to further articulate analyses of actuarial data within internal reports. Education & Experience Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent. Typically a minimum of four years of related work experience. Typically at least three to five successfully completed CAS exams. May include those with their Associateship. #LI-KP1 #LI-Hybrid In New York/California, the average base pay range for an Actuarial Consultant is $107,000 to $134,000. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $49,000 to $98,000 annually.
