The Payroll Analyst is instrumental in enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of the company's payroll operations. The Payroll Analyst serves as a vital link between payroll operations and leadership, ensuring robust, compliant, and streamlined processes.

The Position:

Advanced Payroll Processing and Management:

  • Execute all functions performed by a Payroll Specialist to maintain seamless payroll operations and provide redundancy support.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal, contractual, and union agreement requirements. Specific focus includes:
    • Compliance Checks: Routinely monitor payroll outputs to adhere to tax withholdings, benefits contributions, garnishments, and other deductions.
    • Contractual Adherence: Validate payroll against employee contracts and collective bargaining agreements to ensure correct application of pay rates, grade and step increases, and overtime calculations.
    • Audit and Reconciliation: Regularly audit payroll records and perform reconciliations to verify data accuracy, identify discrepancies, and rectify issues promptly.
    • Record Maintenance: Keep payroll-related records up-to-date, reflecting changes in laws, employee status, and internal policies, and maintain documentation for audits and inquiries.
    • Reporting and Documentation: Generate detailed reports summarizing payroll activities, compliance, and any discrepancies, providing these insights to leadership.
  • Payroll Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:
    • Triage payroll-related issues, determining root causes and implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
    • Act as the primary contact for resolving complex payroll issues, offering expert advice and solutions.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Perform data mining and analysis to extract insights from payroll data, identifying trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Develop and deliver comprehensive reports on payroll metrics and compliance to leadership.
  • Systems Improvement and Process Optimization:
    • Assess current payroll systems and processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Recommend and implement enhancements and new technologies to improve payroll operations.
    • Document new and existing payroll processes to establish clear, updated guidelines and procedures.
  • Control and Compliance Implementation:
    • Develop and implement controls to ensure payroll accuracy and prevent errors.
    • Continuously monitor the effectiveness of these controls in mitigating risks associated with payroll processing.
  • Support for Management:
    • Payroll Operations Manager Support: Assist in overseeing the payroll processing systems, guide payroll staff, and ensure optimal functioning of all payroll activities.
    • Collaboration with Labor Compliance Manager: Partner with the Labor Compliance Manager to ensure payroll practices meet all labor law and collective bargaining requirements. Assist in developing and implementing compliance strategies to address legal changes affecting payroll procedures.

The Candidate:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • A "Can Do" attitude and willingness to learn new programs and skills
  • Excellent auditing and attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of computer software including general computer navigation skills
  • Accurate data entry and typing skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment and meet multiple weekly deadlines
  • Past union contract payroll experience beneficial
