Middletown Power is a 986MW power plant comprised of 3x Fossil Fuel Fired Boilers, 4x GE LM6000 combustion turbines, 1x Pratt & Whitney FT4 combustion turbine, a wastewater treatment plant, and oil terminal, located on the Connecticut River in Middletown, CT.

The Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant equipment utilizing written procedures under the direction of the Operations Shift Supervisor. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the operator is expected to demonstrate good judgment in accordance with industry standards and experience in plant operation. All members of the Middletown Power team are expected to prioritize and maintain focus on personnel safety followed by environmental compliance to reach operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of plant equipment.
• Properly operate boilers, steam turbines, combustion turbines, and plant auxiliary equipment under both normal and emergency conditions.
• Communicate information clearly, both orally and written.
• Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems.
• Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data.
• Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures.
• Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed.
• Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings.
• Communicate condition of plant systems and equipment to others.
• Apply knowledge of power plant operations along with combustion and power generation fundamentals to daily decision-making and work tasks.
• Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel.
• Work both with and without supervision while carrying out duties.
• Meet training requirements and assist in training other operators.
• Ensure shift operations and maintenance PMs are performed.
• Operate various switches and valves and understand the effect each has on the total operation.
• Use of personal protective equipment use is required, based on task, and can include protective clothing, gloves, safety shoes, safety glasses, hardhat, hearing protection, and respirator.
• Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week.
