Conservatory Lab Charter School empowers a diverse range of children as scholars, artists, and leaders through a unique and rigorous academic and music education. We enrich the larger community through performance, service, and collaboration. As a laboratory school, we develop and disseminate innovative educational approaches that positively impact children in other schools and programs.
At Conservatory Lab, we believe in the power of music and learning to transform the lives of our students and their families. At the core of our pioneering curriculum is the hybrid of two proven and exemplary programs: El Sistema and Expeditionary Learning. Both programs emphasize the experience of breaking through barriers in the pursuit of excellence – creating a culture and habit of perseverance. Taken together, these two programs motivate and nurture our students to become dedicated scholars, compassionate leaders, and skilled musicians.
We are seeking a full-time music teacher who is responsible for teaching daily (45-60 mins) group lessons for students in grades 3-8. Strong candidates will have a solid music pedagogy background and 3 or more years of experience teaching instrumental music to elementary and middle school students. Strong classroom management skills and experience are required. Collaboration with other classroom teachers and music staff will also be required in order to help fulfill the vision of an arts integrated school and an in-school El Sistema inspired program. Being a laboratory school, the candidate must also be committed to engaging in creative projects with students as well as exploring culturally relevant repertoire and content.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Utilize a variety of pedagogical approaches to effectively teach large and small group lessons for instrumental students.
    • Co-teach, plan and implement curriculum in conjunction with respective grade level music teachers.
    • Help create and implement music integrated classroom projects in collaboration with curriculum developer and classroom teachers.
    • Create and submit weekly lesson plans that support and follow El Sistema curricular frameworks.
    • Help maintain the wind/brass/percussion instrument inventory.
    • Maintain clean, organized teaching spaces.
    • Provide necessary instruction and training for those assisting in the classroom (volunteers, interns, parents).
    • Ensure respectful and open lines of communication with parents by being available through written and oral communication, setting up conferences etc.
    • Comply with all professional development requirements.
    • Attend all faculty meetings and scheduled staff events.
    • Assist with school duties as needed (arrival, dismissal, lunch etc.).
    • Attend and assist with concerts and performances in and out of school as needed.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching that is evident in lesson planning and instruction.
