Connelly School of the Holy Child is Hiring a Visual arts teacher Near Potomac, MD

Description & Details

Connelly School of the Holy Child is a Catholic, college preparatory school, committed to the intellectual, spiritual, artistic, physical, and social development of young women in grades 6 through 12.

The school emphasizes academic challenge, joy of learning, and education of well-rounded women of faith and action. This position will primarily be teaching general art and assisting with middle school events including the middle school musical.

The successful candidate will teach 9-12th grade visual arts classes and take on other responsibilities based on the school’s needs and the teacher’s individual interests.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of art history, studio experience in a variety of artistic media, a strong philosophical commitment to the importance of both appreciating and creating art, a willingness to work as part of a close faculty team and, most importantly, a passion for working with young artists.

Responsibilities :

  • Teach visual arts courses in the Upper School (9-12th) including painting and drawing, mixed media, studio art, portfolio art, with potential to incorporate other mediums
  • Support the Upper School Musical with scenery and prop creation, painting and design
  • Plan and design art exhibition for annual Evening of the Arts in the spring semester
  • Foster a classroom environment that is conducive to the intellectual, social, and emotional development of young women
  • Communicate effectively with Director of Visual and Performing Arts
  • Work as a team with other teachers in the department, including sharing space and equipment
  • Communicate effectively and consistently with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Maintain appropriate records, student progress reports, and follow required procedures and practices.
  • Integrate the use and care of technology, equipment, materials, and facilities adequately
  • Participate in weekend and evening hours required for after school programs, rehearsals, performances, and events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art or Art Education or relevant field (required)
  • Master’s Degree in Art or relevant field (preferred)
  • 1-3 years minimum teaching experience
  • Experience using a variety of pedagogical strategies to teach students 9-12th grade
  • Ability to collaborate to develop and plan curricula.
  • Ability to work closely with the visual and performing arts faculty
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, and parents
  • Commitment to embrace the school’s mission and values
  • Genuine enthusiasm, personal warmth and passion for teaching and inspiring a love of learning
